The 23rd Annual Midwest Clinical Law Conference, “Building Bridges: Creating Clinical Opportunities through Collaboration,†will be held Nov. 13-15 at the School of Law.
The second seminar in the 2008-09 Indiana Life Sciences Collaboration Conference Series, “Untangling Global Life Sciences Intellectual Property Issues,†will take place from 8:50 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at Cook Medical headquarters at 750 Daniels Way in Bloomington.
The Phi Alpha Delta Fashion Show Auction will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Bluebird on Walnut St. Tickets will be on sale this week every day during the lunch hour in the Law School Lobby at the PAD table. Entry to the event is $5 or a donation of three gently used winter clothing items.

Resume Writing Workshop
The Office of Career and Professional Development will hold a Resume Writing Workshop from noon to 1 p.m. in room 123. The resume is an essential part of your professional tool kit and often the first impression an employer will have of you as a candidate. LCF Thanksgiving Lunch, Bible Study
Legal Christian Fellowship (LCF) will be holding a Thanksgiving lunch and Bible Study at noon in Room 216. All are welcome. Stop by for some fellowship, lunch, and pumpkin pie!
FLF Gender Equity Coffee, Study Break
The Feminist Law Forum (FLF) is hosting its 3rd Annual Gender Equity Coffee Break. Coffee, donuts and bagels will be bountiful from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Law School Lobby. Your recommended contribution is proportionate to your projected earning potential, as determined by gender and race. All proceeds go to Middleway House, helping victims of domestic violence, right here in Bloomington! Later in the afternoon, take a well-deserved study break, featuring pizza, popcorn, and pop culture. Join FLF and the cast of The Hills at 4:45 p.m. in the Student Lounge for a viewing of a couple of episodes. Discussion about the gender implications to follow.

Resume Round Table
The Office of Career and Professional Development will hold a Resume Round Table from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Student Lounge. A team of legal professionals and alumni from Indiana and beyond will be on hand to review our 1L resumes in a round-robin setting. Recruiting employers often use this session to get a sneak peek at the 1L talent pool. This session is full, however we will schedule another session for Spring of 2009.

Midwest Clinical Law Conference
The 23rd Annual Midwest Clinical Law Conference, “Building Bridges: Creating Clinical Opportunities through Collaboration,†will be held Nov. 13-15 at the School of Law. Conference participants will explore all kinds of collaborations within the Law School, within the university, and within the larger community. Keynote speaker Antoinette Sedillo Lopez will remind us why we collaborate and inspire us to look for and try new collaborative opportunities. We will start the conference on Thursday afternoon with two workshops: Teaching Writing to Clinical Law Students and a New Clinicians Workshop. We will end the day with a plenary session — a kind of bridge to the rest of the conference — with a discussion by several experienced clinicians of “If I Knew Then What I Know Now.†If you have questions about the Midwest Clinical Law Conference, please e-mail mclc2008@indiana.edu.

Untangling Global Life Sciences Intellectual Property Issues
Protecting investments in intellectual property developed at life sciences companies will be the focus of the second seminar in the 2008-09 Indiana Life Sciences Collaboration Conference Series, “Untangling Global Life Sciences Intellectual Property Issues.†The conference will take place from 8:50 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Cook Medical headquarters at 750 Daniels Way in Bloomington. Faculty from the Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington and IU's Kelley School of Business will be joined by intellectual property attorneys from around the world and key executives at several companies, including Cook Group Inc., Eli Lilly & Co., Roche Diagnostics Operations, Inc. and Zimmer. Rebecca S. Eisenberg, the Robert and Barbara Luciano Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School, will give the keynote address, "Protecting Innovation in the Life Sciences: U.S. and International Perspectives." My Vietnam Your Iraq
Department of Telecommunications Professor Ron Osgood will screen segments from his recently completed documentary My Vietnam Your Iraq from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Poynter Center, 618 E. 3rd St. The documentary features nine families that have a parent who served in Vietnam and a child in Iraq. Osgood's presentation is third in the Poynter Center Roundtable series this fall, sponsored by the Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions. US-China Trade Relations: Nov. 19
The International Law Society, East Asian Studies Center, and International Programs are co-sponsoring a panel and dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The three-person panel will discuss various aspects of US-China trade relations from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. The event is free and open to all. Following the panel discussion, all are invited to join us for dinner at Mark Pi's China Gate. Each table will have one of our honored LLM's to discuss Chinese business and dinner etiquette. It will be a great evening to enjoy good food while learning about another culture! Tickets for the dinner are $15 and will be sold in the lobby during the lunch hour.

Venture Capital Investment Competition Winners
The Elmore Entrepreneurship Law clinic and the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation congratulate the winners of the First Annual IU Internal Venture Capital Investment Competition. On Nov. 1, after a full day of business plan review, entrepreneur pitching, due diligence, and negotiations, Team Woodlawn, comprised of Cole Parker, 3rd-year JD/MBA; Jon Rinehart, 3rd-year JD/MBA; Cindy Warren 2nd-year MBA; Ben Trumbull, 2nd-year MBA; and Kate Lehman, 2nd-year MBA, emerged victorious.
How to Represent a Victim of Domestic Violence
ICLEF will present "How to Represent a Victim of Domestic Violence" from 8:50 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Indianapolis. The event features several sessions on domestic violence, including the use of social science research to support victims and the role of mediation in domestic violence situations. Conference participants can earn six CLE credit hours and .5 ethics hours. Professor Amy Applegate, director of the Viola J. Taliaferro Family and Children Mediation Clinic, will be one of the conference presenters. Registration fees are $210 for ISBA members and $285 for Non-ISBA members.The event will be held at the ICLEF Conference Facility, 230 E. Ohio St., Fifth Floor, in Indianapolis. Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition
The 2008-09 Sherman Minton Moot Court oral arguments continue through today. Oral arguments will be held at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. Most of the second-year class traditionally participates in the annual competition, which is also open to third-year students who have not previously competed. Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users).
