Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program
The Indiana University IRS VITA program offers free tax preparation services for qualifying low-income taxpayers during the spring semester. Each year, it is our privilege to help hundreds of low-income Bloomington residents and students file federal and state tax returns.

Non-resident taxpayers
If you are a non-resident for U.S. tax purposes (i.e. a student who has only been in the U.S. since 2020 or a scholar who has only been in the U.S. since 2023), you are eligible to receive our virtual income tax assistance services. These services are available by appointment after an international student or scholar at Indiana University-Bloomington completes as much of their tax return as possible using Sprintax.
Email iubapvita@gmail.com to request an appointment.
Resident taxpayers
Our services are 100 percent free of charge. If you are a U.S. resident with income of $67,000 or less, we can help you. VITA services will be available at Maurer School of Law Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Room 121 of the Law School (211 South Indiana Avenue) between January 27 and March 25. Note: VITA services will be unavailable during Spring Break (March 17-18).
Email questions to the law school’s VITA contact, Georgelyne Jean-Pierre (gjeanpie@iu.edu).
