Life Experience, Then School (LETS)
Life Experience, Then School (LETS) (formerly Older and Wiser Law Students (OWLS)) is a support system for non-traditional law students, particularly those who have a partner, are married, have children, obtained another degree, or pursued a career before entering law school. LETS hosts support meetings for spouses and students with children, assists members in framing and highlighting previous careers and life experiences when searching for employment, and organizes a variety of social events that often include the entire family. The organization also provides peer advice on class selection, participation in extracurricular activities, and balancing the demands of law school and family.
LETS provides a place for students to network with other non-traditional law students and addresses the concerns of this population. Activities include:
- Social gatherings
- Support meetings for the partners, spouses, and children of LETS
- Family-friendly school-wide events
- Community Resource List
- Presentations that address the best way to highlight previous career experience during the summer job search
- Peer advice on class selection, participation in extracurricular activities, and networking opportunities
