First-Generation Law Association
Mission
The First-Generation Law Association’s mission is to develop and establish additional support through educational and social experiences of first-generation students. Ensuring these students' success is woven into the Indiana University Maurer School of Law initiative, service, and program intrinsic to the law school’s identity. This Association allows all first-generation students to create and engage in dialogue in a community among other students that identify within this group.
About FGLA
The First Generation Law Association (FGLA) welcomes students and individuals who identify as first-generation college students and or first-generation lawyers. We are an inclusive organization that advocates for first-generation students to join and impact the legal community around them. FGLA acknowledges the difficulties associated with being the first and we honor that community here at Maurer.
Members enjoy the benefits of our alumni networking opportunities, the ability to learn from first generation professionals, scholars, and professors who specialize in different areas, scholarship opportunities, and other social events. We invite everyone who self-identifies as first-generation to experience their community.
Our school is committed to diversity in the legal profession; therefore, we are interested and eager to bring forth a community for students of different ethnic, professional, and academic backgrounds and cultures. This will create a more complex student body and provide students an opportunity to connect with first-generation alumni in different areas of the law.
