Graduate Colloquium: The Consumer Welfare Hypothesis as Legal Science

What is efficiency about? Total welfare, we all know it. Except, that it needs not. Efficiency can be about consumer welfare and consumer sovereignty. In "The Consumer Welfare Hypothesis," Fabrizio Esposito (NOVA School of Law) developed a method to answer this question and apply it to EU antitrust and consumer law. The method is called reverse-engineering legal reasoning. It improves on Posner’s original and path breaking efficiency hypothesis of the common law and produces knowledge about the content of the law.

CCD Seminar Series: Tamta Muradashvili

Tamta Muradashvili is a lawyer and manager of Georgia's most influential independent and critical media outlet, Mtavari Channel. The Mtavari Channel team has exposed unconstitutional practices of the Georgian government, for which the channel has been subjected to relentless repression. Tamta Muradashvili will present the case of Georgia and the work of the media, describing how the Kremlin-backed government's policies are undermining the constitution and democracy

The Comedy of Law with comedian Liz Glazer

Join the Office for Student Affairs and the Center for Law, Society, & Culture for lunch and a stand-up comedy set from Liz Glazer. Glazer began her career as most standup comedians do: as a tenured law professor. She attended the University of Pennsylvania, receiving her B.A. magna cum laude and M.A. in Philosophy (Glazer submatriculated into the graduate division so she earned both degrees in 4 years). Glazer then attended the University of Chicago Law School where she was a member of the Law Review. After working as a transactional real estate lawyer at the New York law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, Glazer went on to teach law and earn tenure from Hofstra University's Maurice A. Deane School of Law, and also visited at other law schools such as Northwestern University Law School and Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Join the Office for Student Affairs at local non-profit Teacher's Warehouse. They serve the educational and creative needs of children by obtaining donated supplies and distributing them free to teachers for use in schools in Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, and Owen counties.
