Litigating welfare rights

The American Constitution Society hosts professor Andrew Hammond and Carrie Chapman, senior director of litigation and advocacy at Legal Council for Health Justice, for this discussion. Food will be provided — RSVP by 5 p.m., March 5 so we know how much food to provide.

Indiana Bar exam information session
Noon - 1 p.m. in the DeLaney Moot Court Room
Learn about the Indiana Bar exam application and character and fitness from the staff of the Indiana Bar Admissions Office. This is essential for 3L Indiana applicants and useful for 2L students who think they will take the Indiana Bar. After the presentation there will be time for questions. Handouts will be made available to students unable to attend. Bring your lunch.
Conversation with Steve Shermer

Steve Shermer is a senior attorney in the DOJ's Environmental Enforcement Division. He will discuss his career with interested students. Steve won the prestigious Arthur S. Flemming Award in 2020 and has particular experience with the Clean Air Act and process safety management cases. Sponsored by the Environmental Law Society.

NLG abolitionist read-in
4 - 6 p.m. in the Student Lounge
Law students, faculty, and staff curious about prison abolition, join the National Lawyers Guild for an abolitionist read-in — part of its Week Against Mass Incarceration. Books will be available. NLG welcomes those who want to read independently as well as those looking for conversation. This is an opportunity to foster a sense of community through reading, discussing, and learning about the prison abolitionist movement.

Dean's Town Hall
Noon - 1 p.m. in the DeLaney Moot Court Room
Law students, faculty, and staff are invited to this semester’s Town Hall meeting to learn more about the strategic initiatives moving the Law School forward. The Town Hall will be in its usual format, with Dean Christiana Ochoa providing a short address followed by a question-and-answer period.
Pizza will be provided — RSVP by noon, March 6.
Parenting in the carceral state
4:30 - 5:30 p.m. in the Faculty Conference Room
Join the Incarcerated Individuals Legal Assistance Project, IDOC Watch, and the National Lawyers Guild to learn from Queen Lewis, Evansville Director of FOCUS Initiatives LTD, a grassroots abolitionist reentry program. She will speak on her experience as a mother of incarcerated children and her work organizing with FOCUS Families, an organization of families/loved ones of incarcerated people. Moderated by Jauston Huerta, Indianapolis Director for FOCUS. This event is part of the NLG's Week Against Mass Incarceration.

CACR Speaker Series: Aunshul Rege on "Social engineering in research, education, and application"

Aunshul Rege, associate professor and director of the Cybersecurity in Application, Research, and Education Lab at Temple University. Dr. Rege's research focii include critical infrastructure and cybersecurity, ransomware, cyberadversarial decision-making and adaptation, and cybersecurity education. Dr. Alessandro Ferrari, a visiting scholar at IU's Center for Religion & the Human, will present "The right to religious freedom in the European exception: The end of a constitutional model?"

Tickets on sale March 6: 35th Annual Rapheal M. Prevot, Jr. Barristers' Ball
The Black Law Students Association will host the 35th annual Rapheal M. Prevot, Jr. Barristers' Ball on Saturday, April 1, 6:30 – 11 p.m. at The Woolery Mill. Tickets are on sale March 6 - March 22, starting at $80 per person and increasing over the sales window. Don't delay! Visit the official website for the latest information and to purchase. 2023 graduates: Report your cumulative pro bono hours by April 1
You will be required to report your cumulative pro bono hours by April 1 to be recognized at graduation. The Law School will send out a Qualtrics form when we get closer to April. Check the Access to Justice Program website for more information.
SBA food drive this week
The Student Bar Association is hosting a canned food drive for the Hoosier Hills Food Bank March 6 - 10. We will place four bins in the lobby — one each for 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, and graduate programs students. Classes will be competing to see who brings the most canned goods.
