U.S. Air Force JAG Corps information session

As an Air Force JAG, you'll have a fulfilling career with the opportunity to gain immediate litigation experience as a trial counsel (prosecutor) while practicing various areas of law. Practice areas include criminal, environmental, government contracts, labor, cyber, and national security law. Air Force JAGs are assigned to bases around the world. This is a culture you won't find at any law firm in the world — and there are programs for 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls. Major J. B. Hoover will present.

Learn about studying for, and taking, the Patent Bar. The USPTO requires lawyers to pass the exam to practice before them, either in patent prosecution or post-grant proceedings. Topics will include eligibility, registration, studying, and more.

Meet and greet with Scott Callahan
6 - 7 p.m. in 122
Scott Callahan '88 will discuss his law school experience, career path, and experiences as a prosecutor and in private practice. You will gain invaluable insights and advice that will help your legal career. Callahan served as Lawrence County's prosecuting attorney for 16 years, handling more than 20 homicide cases. Callahan has taught trial advocacy for the National College of District Attorneys and the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys' Council. He opened his own law firm in 2007 with practices in criminal defense, personal injury, divorce/family law, and wills/estates. Callahan hopes to expand his firm's practices, and hopes to hire one or two clerks and an associate attorney.

2L opportunities panel

Hear a panel of 2L and 3L students discuss various opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom during your 2L year. They will describe their own involvement and leadership roles, the skills these positions can help you develop, how to use those experiences in interviews, and suggestions for building a balanced 2L schedule.
This session will be moderated by Director Katie Beck.

Professional development: Creating a U.S.-style legal résumé

Graduate and exchange students are invited to an interactive presentation on résumé writing. You may need a U.S.-style résumé when you apply to other graduate programs; fellowships or scholarships; or part-time, summer, or post-grad internships and jobs. You will learn how to represent yourself in a résumé that follows the conventions and expectations of U.S.-based employers. You will leave this session ready to update and revise your résumé, and meet with a Career Services Office advisor to review your document.
