The Barristers' Ball is quickly approaching. If you’re still not sure what to wear, kick off your gown-shopping and tuxedo-fitting with the iconic Black Tie 101 presentation by the best dressed gentleman in the Law School, Prof. Don Gjerdingen. Transactional Drafting Workshop #4
Join Prof. Mark Need as he crosses his famous "IU/Bloomington Bucket List" with the fourth in this year's series of transactional drafting workshops. The fourth and final workshop prior to the 4th annual Maurer Transactional Drafting and Negotiation Competition will be held at 7pm on the big screen at the IU Cinema, entrance on the north side of the IU Auditorium. Bridge to Practice Overview
Attention class of 2019: Please join CSO to learn about the Bridge to Practice Program. The Bridge to Practice Fellowship provides financial assistance to eligible graduates who secure unpaid volunteer positions with public interest organizations, government employers, or small firms post-graduation while they continue their job search. While hosts are not obligated to permanently hire their fellow, many employers do. CSO will explain the benefits to and responsibilities of both the fellow and the host organization. IP Mock Interviews and Reception
This annual event is structured so that students have the opportunity to participate in several short mock interviews with IP practitioners. The event provides students with an important opportunity to gain critical professional experience. Mock Interviews are to begin at 6:30 p.m. Participants should plan to meet in the Faculty Lounge by 6:15 p.m. A catered reception will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge – all IP students are welcome to attend the reception (even those not taking part in the mock interviews). Attorneys from Barnes & Thornburg, Bingham Greenebaum Doll, Covington & Burling, Faegre Baker Daniels, Jones Day, Krieg DeVault, and Middleton Reutlinger have all attended in the past. 1Ls with a strong interest in IP are given priority, but any law student is welcome to apply. Tax Sitcom Night
Professor Larry Zelenak (Duke Law School) will host a tax-related sitcom night, along with Profs. David Gamage and Leandra Lederman. As part of this event, Prof. Zelenak will present three classic sitcom episodes, from three different series, in which couples encounter the federal income tax together. The episodes are Occasional Wife, "That's How They Got Capone," The Odd Couple, "The Ides of April," and Roseanne, "April Fools Day." Room 125, 4 to 7 p.m.

Bar Exam Information Sessions for LLM Students
If you are an LLM student and you are thinking about taking a U.S. state bar exam, then please plan to attend this information session with Prof. Gabrielle Goodwin. Several different state bars, as well as the patent bar, allow foreign-trained lawyers to sit for the bar exams, yet the requirements for eligibility vary widely. During this session, Prof. Goodwin will help you understand these requirements and the application processes for each bar exam. Room 213, noon.
Faculty and Staff News
Prof. Sarah Jane Hughes testified before the Financial Services Committee of the Indiana Senate at the invitation of Senator Bassler, chair of the Committtee, on a resolution to appoint a study committee for two bills related to the regulation of providers of virtual-currency products and services that the Uniform Law Commission approved for state enactments in 2017 and 2018. Professor Hughes served as the ULC's reporter for both uniform acts, which have also been approved by the American Bar Association's House of Delegates. The resolution was drafted by Senator Eric Koch, '89, one of Prof. Hughes' first students. If Senator Koch's resolution is approved during this legislative session, the study committee is not expected to be convened until summer 2019.

Summer 2019 Internship Program, CareerNet #15158
The Louisville Immigration Court is soliciting internship applications for Summer 2019. Rising second- and third-year law students are eligible to apply. Prior knowledge of immigration law is preferred but not necessary. Strong research and writing skills are required. Requires cover letter, resume, official/unofficial transcript, contact information for three references, and writing sample of up to 10 pages. See CareerNet for details.

Access to Justice Fellowship Applications Open
Applications are now being accepted by the Access to Justice Program for a pro bono fellow to work in the 2019-2020 school year. The fellowship is a two year commitment during your time at the Law School. A 1L or joint-degree candidate with two years left at the Law School will be chosen to help coordinate the school's student pro bono program with the returning 3L and graduate student fellows. Responsibilities include: coordinating and promoting numerous pro bono-centered events throughout the year, tracking student pro bono hours, working with student organizations, and conducting student outreach.
Applicants should have a well-developed sense of professionalism, passion for social justice, strong organizational skills, and extensive networking capabilities. Traditionally, fellows have received full funding to attend the ABA's Equal Justice Conference in May and have also received a stipend. Applications consisting of a short cover letter with a statement of interest and a resume should be sent electronically to Nell C. Collins, Mary Pat Stemnock, and Sam Von Ende (at wedogood@indiana.edu) by March 8 at 5 p.m. Please redact GPA and class rank. Interviews for positions will begin the week following spring break.

DC Fall Semester Program Deadline Extended to Feb. 18
The due date for applications for the DC Program has been extended to Monday, February 18th to enable students who were not able to attend the information session on January 22nd to prepare applications and meet with their advisors before applying. Copies of the two course descriptions -- Field Placements (B 538) (8 credits) and Lawyering in the Public Interest (B 539) (3 credits) -- are in the Career Services Office and also are available from Mrs. Kimberly Hughes in Room 252A. To schedule an appointment to meet with the program's faculty sponsor, Professor Sarah Jane Hughes, next week, please email her at sjhughes@indiana.edu. Students interested also can discuss the program with Prof. Jennifer Morgan of the Jerome Hall Law Library, jlbryan@indiana.edu, or with their CSO advisor or with the Student Affairs Office. If any student has an interest in a placement for which the application deadline is during February or early March, please alert Prof. Hughes by email so that we can arrange to review your application before February 18th as needed.
Singing for Summer Salaries
PILF is gearing up for our annual signature event, Singing for Summer Salaries at noon on February 26. Our goal for this year's event is to raise $12,000 to fund our students' public interest summer work. This year's event will feature auction items provided by students and local businesses, challenges from professors and administrative offices, and a delicious lunch. PILF is tabling every weekday from now until the event. Drop by the table to learn more about the event, order your lunch, and vote for your favorite professor to serenade us all at the event.
2019-20 Positions at Indiana Law
Several administrative offices in the Law School are taking applications for positions for 2019-20. The following positions will be posted (or are currently posted) on CareerNet: admissions fellows, career services office fellows, development fellow, practice group advisors, and diversity and inclusion fellow. Please note there are different deadlines for the positions with most of the deadlines falling after spring break. PGA, diversity and inclusion, and admission fellow applications are due February 28th. You are welcome to apply for more than one position, but you must indicate a preference when applying.
