This Week in the Law School
Congratulations to Ben Adams and Michael Smyth, our 2018 Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition champions. Our other two finalists, Seamus Appel and Nick Bauer, also deserve special recognition for their exceptional performances. Thanks to the executive and competition boards for their help in making this year's event a success. And thank you to the countless students, faculty, staff, and alumni and friends for all their contributions throughout the competition.
Barring any unforeseen changes, this will be the last Indiana Law Annotatedof the fall semester. Please check the events calendar for any late-scheduled events as we close out the year. You'll note we've included a handful of events next week toward the end of this week's edition. We invite you to welcome our new CSO director, Laura Fonseca, on Tuesday. See below for details.

Advocates for Life is hosting a finals information session designed to give 1Ls preparation tips catered to their individual exams. Every exam and professor will be represented: 2Ls and 3Ls who have had each of this year's 1L professors will be there to offer advice and answer questions about how best to prepare for each final exam. CSO Jobs of the Week
The ABA Business Law Section Diversity Clerkship is a summer program that provides business law clerkship placements for qualified diverse first or second year law students. Participating clerks receive support and mentoring in the business law field and exposure to business practices. Roles and responsibilities of selected participants include but are not limited to researching cases, drafting memoranda and opinions, observing trials, and networking with local attorneys and judges. Participants receive a $3,000 stipend to offset participation costs. Applications are due January 7, 2019. View qualifications and application requirements.
Rolls-Royce Corporation is looking for an intern for the summer of 2019 to work within the Defense Commercial team. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students interested in corporate and/or commercial law and looking for non-traditional legal experience. The Business Law Section Diversity Clerkship Program focus is on judicial clerkships, where diversity among judicial clerks remains disproportionately low. For law students, serving as a judicial law clerk is a mark of distinction and honor that will advance their future career opportunities in law practice and academia, in government as high-level appointees, and in securing appointments to the bench. Clerkships in business law courts provide another unique and highly important benefit to law students: the ability to see a microcosm of business practice, and allow the student to become familiar with business issues. Such a background will prove invaluable to a career in business law, whether it be litigation or transactional work. The Legal Summer Institute (LSI) is a unique in-house and law firm experience where traditionally underrepresented 2L law school students are invited to spend the first week of the program at Google, followed by a full summer internship with one of our partner law firms. LSI aims to improve access to in-house careers at tech companies by expanding opportunities and removing barriers for underrepresented talent in the legal industry. LSI scholars are a diverse group of students with interests across all legal practice areas. We consider full-time and part-time 2L students who are attending school in the US. Students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented in the technology industry, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, and Native American students, students with disabilities, LGBT students, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
Warner Norcross + Judd is looking for 1L candidates for summer 2019 positions in their Grand Rapids, MI and Southfield, MI offices. Increasing diversity and creating an inclusive work environment continues to be a top priority at Warner. Warner’s summer associate program is 10 weeks in length (5/13-7/19) and pays $2,115 per week. Summer associates at Warner get projects across different practice areas, and there are many fun social events. 'Tis the season for law firm holiday receptions. CSO receives many invitations for holiday receptions and will post them on CareerNet as announcements and on our bulletin board in the hallway outside of CSO. These are great opportunities to network with law firms. Please follow each firm’s instructions for RSVPs.

First Amendment and Media Law Workshop and Conference
If you are interested in First Amendment and media law, the ABA Forum on Communications Law Annual Conference is a great opportunity to network and gain substantive experience. The conference includes a media advocacy workshop where law students and new lawyers participate in two oral arguments and one pre-publication review exercise. One oral argument involves the Espionage Act and the press; the other oral involves the DMCA and fair use. The conference fee for law students is $100. There is no fee for the workshop.
