2L and 3L Spring Externships Overview
Prof. Inge Van der Cruysse will give an overview of externship programs for academic credit the school offers in spring (one day a week), and how to sign up for them. Applications for judicial externships are due in early October, and students will be walked through the details. Placements include the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit (3Ls only, Bloomington); Federal District Court (Indianapolis); Federal Bankruptcy Court (Indianapolis); Indiana Supreme Court (Indianapolis); Indiana Court of Appeals (Indianapolis); Indiana Tax Court (Indianapolis); Indiana Trial Courts (in several counties). Business Law Society Mentorship Pairings
At our first general meeting of the semester, we will be holding 1L/LLM representative elections and announcing mentorship pairs. Please come prepared with a 30-second speech about why you want to join the BLS board and why you are qualified to serve your peers. Non-pizza lunch will be provided. Room 124, noon.
Student Organization Roundtable
Each student organization, project, and journal will send one representative who will discuss all your planned events for the year. The goal of the round table is to promote collaborations and to minimize overlap and conflicts. Room 213, noon.
Crucial Change in Immigration Policy
Please join the International Students Association (ISA) session about this crucial immigration policy change. All F, J, and M visa holders are strongly recommended to attend. Mr. Hong-min Jun, '00, an experienced immigration lawyer, will also be there to answer legal questions regarding this policy change. Room 216, noon.

Sports and Entertainment Law Society Panel
Guest speakers Dan Emerson, '79, general counsel for the Indianapolis Colts; Frank Pulice, general counsel for the Indiana Pacers; Catheirne Corsaro, assistant general counsel for the Pacers; Fred Glass, IU's vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics; and Jared Tidemann,'13, counsel for the NCAA, will discuss legal careers in sports. We will be serving a non-pizza lunch, on a first come, first served basis. Moot Court Room, noon.
Public Interest Law Foundation Meeting
PILF will have its first general body meeting, where we'll discuss our fall fundraising event as well as discussing several opportunities to get PILF points in the next few months. Lunch will be provided. Room 120, noon.
Introduction to Private Acquisitions
Prof. Mark Need will break down the basic timeline of a commercial acquisition and discuss the role of attorneys and other participants in the deal structure. This lunch presentation will be of interest to those considering a transactional law career and will serve as the introduction to the 2019 Maurer Transactional Law and Negotiation Competition. Stewart Lecture in Labor and Employment Law
In a presentation titled "Speech Inequality After Janus v. AFSCME," Seattle University School of Law Prof. Charlotte Garden addresses “the growing – yet mostly ignored – divergence in the Court’s treatment of the use of market leverage to achieve political leverage by corporate and labor speakers” and endeavors “to sketch a route toward a more coherent First Amendment approach to the relationship between economic power and the metaphorical marketplace of ideas.” One credit of Indiana CLE available. Secure Facilities Training and Letter Writing
The Inmate Legal Assistance Project will be holding its mandatory secure facilities training for any volunteers who plan to attend prison visits this school year. The training will be followed by a letter-writing workshop, where volunteers currently working on a letter assignment can get more feedback and assistance from the executive board. If you plan on attending a prison visit but cannot make this training, please contact Maryrachel Durso as soon as possible. Room 125, 4:30 p.m.
