1L How to Write a Brief with Lexis Advance
The Lexis Account Executive will address how to use Lexis Advance to assist in researching and writing the 1L legal research and writing brief and memorandum of law. Come and find out how Lexis Advance differs from other research services. Moot Court Room, 10:00-10:45 a.m.

LGBT Project Volunteer Callout
Come learn about exciting pro-bono opportunities involving our next projects: a guide for transgendered individuals seeking to legally change their name and gender on legal documents; policy research regarding LGBT-related bullying in schools; and the continuation of our involvement in the Indiana same-sex marriage conversation. You don't have to have worked with us last semester to get involved now. Room 122, noon.

Summer Externship Program Workshop
The Law School permits students engaged in unpaid legal work for nonprofit, government agencies, judges, or legal services organizations (law firms for B514) to receive up to four credits during the summer through this program. In order to participate, a student must secure an internship and complete an academic component for credit. Students who qualify will also be eligible for summer financial aid. Attend this workshop to learn more. Lunch provided for those who RSVP. Open to 1Ls and 2Ls. Room 125, noon.

Center for IP Research Practitioners-in-Residence
Suzanne Flaton-Origenes and Anna-lisa Gallo, in-house lawyers from BASF Corp. who focus their practice on IP transactional work, will spend the day on campus attending classes and meeting with students. Join them for a talk about their practice (lunch will be served). Room 213, noon.
Latino Law Students Association Panel on the Political Status of Puerto Rico
The panel will be discussing the current territorial status of Puerto Rico and the possible alternatives (statehood, independence, and free association) to the current territorial status. This is a great opportunity to learn about Puerto Rico. Lunch will be provided. Room 120, noon.
Feminist Law Forum Discussion

The Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum and the Office of Career and Professional Development present a program about ADR/Mediation. Sam Ardery, JD'83, Bunger & Robertson, a Maurer Law School graduate, will offer key insights and tips to help you be successful when entering practice. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Federal Government Workshop: "Everything You Need to Know About Legal Careers in the Government Sector with Alumnus Arthur Lopez"
Arthur Lopez, JD'83, is a recipient of the Law School's Distinguished Service Award and has more than 20 years'experience working in the federal government. He currently serves as the Associate General Counsel in the US Office of Government Ethics. Join Mr. Lopez for this informative session to learn strategies for success in landing entry-level and summer intern opportunities in the government career arena with your JD. Sharpen your professionalism etiquette with his savvy advice and action steps. For all students. Room 121, 4:30 p.m.
Mr. Lopez will also hold small-group open office hours on both Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 352 and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lewis 218. RSVP on Symplicity for these small-group sessions, but you can show up any time in those 2-hour time slots.

Maurer Telecommunications Law Moot Court Team Makes Final Rounds
The Law School sent two teams to the Telecommunications Moot Court competition again this year, and both teams made it to the final argument.
Meg Burton, Tim Conroy, and Michael Caine faced off against Joe Fuschetto, Joey Kaufmann, and Tayler Mayer in the final round, with Fuschetto/Kaufmann/Mayer taking home first place. They also won the award for best brief. Both teams were coached by Natalie Jones, Darrian Campbell, and Jon Levy. The last time a Maurer team finished near the top was a second-place finish more than a decade ago. A special thanks goes out to Professor Michael McGregor for oversight of the entire process.
Center for the Business of Life Sciences Information Session and Reception
Join the Center for Business of Life Sciences at the IU Kelley School of Business for an information session and reception on Thursday, February 21st from 5:30-7:30p.m., Kelley Graduate Building room 0034. There will be a presentation about LemerPax USA and the emerging life sciences cluster in Southeast Indiana. Also, the reception will be a great opportunity to network with guest presenters, CBLS staff, and a diverse group of students in the sciences, medicine, informatics, law, business, and other fields. Protective Order Project Volunteer Call-Out
2Ls and 3Ls: If you have not started your goal of 60 hours of pro bono service yet, you can begin volunteering for the Protective Order Project at any time during the year. Please contact Jenny Rulon at jrulon@indiana.edu if you are interested in volunteering with POP this semester.
CJAM Basic Mediation Training
The Community Justice Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 32-hour basic mediation training for any community member interested in helping facilitate community mediation. The spring training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. over two weekends, February 9-10 and 23-24, at the Law School. Participants who complete the training are eligible to work as CJAM volunteer mediators; however, any community member interested in learning basic mediation skills is welcome to participate. The training will be led by senior mediators from the Community Justice and Mediation Center. Tuition is $200, with scholarships available.. How to Schedule an Event
An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.
ILA Submissions
Indiana Law Annotated is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week (and, if requested, for the week after that). Submit information and articles for ILA to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. Entries may be edited to ensure consistent presentation. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact Ken Turchi (kturchi@indiana.edu; phone 856-4044). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
