This Week in the Law School
1Ls have two opportunities to help discover what career paths are best for them this week. OCPD will host an assessment workshop on Tuesday at noon, and a career exploration workshop at noon on Thursday.
Phi Alpha Delta's annual Fashion Show and Auction takes over Bear's Place Thursday night. Bring $5 or three items of gently used professional clothing to get in the door. Come support the Shalom Community Center and enjoy a night of fun and fashion in the process.

PAD Buccetos Fundraiser
Take a night off from cooking and enjoy some pizza and pasta while helping raise money for charity today from 4 p.m. to midnight. If you want to make a donation, all you have to do is show up and order food at either Buccetos locations in Bloomington! Twenty percent of the total sales from the dinner of anybody who comes in with this flyer will go directly to the Shalom Community Center. PAD and non-PAD members are equally invited and encouraged to attend. The best part is, the more you eat the more money you're raising. Phi Alpha Delta's Annual Fashion Show & Auction - benefiting the Shalom Center - will be held at the Bluebird. Doors open at 6 p.m. the auction lasts from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are only $5 or you can get in free by donating three items of gently used professional clothing! Get your tickets in the lobby or at the door!
1L Career Exploration Workshop
Your law degree empowers you with skills that will transfer to a myriad of career fields. From noon to 1 p.m. in the Moot Court Room, learn the essentials to researching careers in the legal world and beyond including law firms, business, non profit, public interest, government and many more. This is your chance to test drive and explore careers so you can discover what fits best for you. Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP in Symplicity.

SALDF Pumpkin Party at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center
The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund invites you to the annual Pumpkin Party at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center starting at noon. The Exotic Feline Rescue Center is a sanctuary to over 225 exotic cats (including lions, tigers, leopards, and more). During this tour, you will have the opportunity to see these animals up close and personal while they are playing in a pumpkin patch. You can purchase your tickets for $15 ($10 for SALDF members) in the lobby during the lunch hour all week. This event is open to all so please feel free to purchase tickets for your friends and family. Complimentary transportation will be available as well.
Faculty News
Professor Ajay Mehrotra recently presented his paper, "The Paradox of Retrenchment: Post-WWI Republican Ascendancy and the Consolidation of the American Fiscal State," at a symposium on The History of the American State held at NYU's Remarque Institute.
On Oct. 15, Professor Dawn Johnsen spoke on the closing plenary panel at a conference at Princeton University entitled "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Fair-Minded Words." The conference, which was inspired by President Obama's 2009 Notre Dame speech urging civil conversation and common ground on abortion and reproductive health, was highly unusual in that its hundreds of participants and dozens of presenters were pro-choice and pro-life in roughly equal numbers.
Professor Brian Broughman presented his article "Entrepreneur Wealth and the Value of Limited Liability" at the Midwest Law & Economics Association meeting at the University of Colorado Law School on October 9th. He presented the same article in the law and business seminar at Vanderbilt University Law School on October 25th.

Green Initiative Fund Signature Collection
Please sign the campus-wide petition to support adding an optional sustainability donation of $5 to the course registration checkbox ticket. A minimum of 2,000 paper signatures are needed, with a total of 10,000 required by the end of the semester. Your signature does not obligate you to pay any fee. Funds will be allocated every semester by the Student Sustainability Council to support sustainability-related initiatives on campus (extending recycling coverage, purchasing motion sensor lighting, installing solar panels, enhancing transportation infrastructure, etc.) To sign the online version of the petition, please visit the following UITS-sponsored address: http://petitions.indiana.edu/
Gong Show Tabling
The Gong show is a talent showcase judged by members of the IU Maurer School of Law faculty and staff. Indiana Law students and other graduate students comprise the showcased talent. If their performances do not please the audience or judges panel the gong will ring, signaling their immediate removal from the stage. The Gong Show has a long tradition at IU, and is among one of BLSA's signature social programming events. BLSA will be tabling beginning today. The Gong Show will take place at 9 p.m. on Nov. 12 at Bear's Place.
Movember: Supporting Men's Health Research
You may notice a few law students growing moustaches this month. Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men's health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st clean-shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month. The moustache becomes the ribbon for men's health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days. BLSA Penny Wars Fundraiser
The Black Law Students Association will be hosting a Penny War between classes (1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls) during the week of November 1 - 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main lobby. All students are encouraged to support their class (and to try to defeat the other classes) by dropping their donations in the respective class jars located at the BLSA table. The goal of Penny Wars is for one class to defeat the others by putting coins (positive points) in their jar and to diminish the other classes' points by putting dollars (negative points) in their jars. The class with the most points, not necessarily the most money, wins. Coins and dollars will be assigned the following points: pennies (1); nickels (5); dimes (10), quarters (25); half-dollars (50); dollars (-100, multiplied by bill value). ILA Submissions
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 856-1497). Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter (av@exchange.iu.edu). Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
