This Week in the Law School
The Court of Appeals of Indiana will hear oral argument in Arlton v. Schraut on Monday at noon in the Moot Court Room. Please plan to attend this unique opportunity to see the Court in action.
Fall break is almost here. OCPD will host a networking strategy session Tuesday at noon to help you discover productive ways to use your break.

Court of Appeals of Indiana: Arlton v. Schraut
The Court of Appeals of Indiana will convene at noon in the Moot Court Room as part of the Court's "Traveling Oral Argument" series. The Court will hear argument in Arlton v. Schraut, a case involving the presentation of digital and enlarged photographs stemming from the diagnosis and surgical treatment of an eye condition suffered by the plaintiff, Paul Arlton. The judges will stay after the argument to answer questions from students. Please remember to turn off or silence all electronic devices before the hearing begins.
Doug Hyman: Things Not Taught In Law School That You Absolutely Need to Know
Doug Hyman draws on his experiences and the experiences of those he has observed over the past 15 years to share his unique insight on: networking as a law student and the importance of networking throughout your career; positioning yourself for better summer job placement; and how to find success and happiness once employed. This presentation takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in room 213.

Networking Strategies for Fall Break

Professor Fuentes-Rohwer: Citizens United v. FEC
Join Professor Luis Fuentes-Rohwer as he leads a discussion on Citizens United v. FEC, the recent U.S. Supreme Court case that holding that corporate funding of independent political broadcasts in candidate elections cannot be limited under the First Amendment. This event, hosted by the American Constitution Society, will be held at noon in room 122.
Navy JAG Presentation
A representative from the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps will be visiting the Law School from noon to 1:30 p.m. Lt. Courtney Scheff, a Navy JAG attorney, will make a short presentation beginning at about 12:10 followed by an informal question and answer session. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about a career in the Navy JAG.

Health and Health Care 2020: Back to the Future?
Wendy Everett, president of the New England Healthcare Institute and a leading U.S. expert on health policy, will discuss critical elements of health care reform and their effects on individuals and society next week at Indiana University Bloomington. Everett will speak on "Health and Health Care 2020: Back to the Future?" at 4 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. The Branigin Lecture is sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study, which is hosting Everett's visit to IU.
Venture Capital Call-out Meeting
Interested in venture capital? A call-out meeting for the 3rd Annual IU Internal Venture Capital Investment Competition, sponsored by the Maurer School of Law's Elmore Entrepreneurship Law Clinic and the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, will be Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. upstairs at Nick's. The winning team from the Internal VCIC earns an expenses-paid berth in the Regional VCIC at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon, to be held in February 2011.To learn more about VCIC, visit www.vcic.unc.edu. Professor Wilson has more than 15 years of professional and legal experience working in and dealing with matters involving Asia and brings this diversity of experience to the topics covered in his presentation, which takes place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in room 120.

Alumni Summit and Distinguished Service Awards
Alumni from around the country will be at the Law School all day Friday for the School's Alumni Summit. The day will be filled with board meetings and other events, and we will honor three alumni with Distinguished Service Awards during a lunch program. Please join ILA in congratulating Gregory A. Castanias, JD'90; Leroy W. Hofmann, JD'58; and Laurie N. Robinson, JD'98; as this year's DSA recipients. Founded in 1997, Distinguished Service Awards recognize graduates who have distinguished themselves in service to their communities and the Law School in ways far exceeding traditional business, professional, and civic duties. Through their hard work, passion, and accomplishments, Greg, Lee, and Laurie have defined Indiana Law's ideals for community service and serve as accomplished role models for our Law School and the greater community. Congratulations!
Faculty News
Professor Fred Cate was present at the National Cybersecurity and Communications and Integration Center outside of Washington, D.C. on Tuesday for the first day of the three-day Cyberstorm III exercise. This is the largest federal cybersecurity exercise to date, with seven federal departments (Homeland Security, Defense, Commerce, Energy, Justice, Treasury and Transportation) participating, plus 11 states, 12 other countries, and 60 private companies.
On September 9, Distinguished Scholar in IP Law and University Fellow Marshall Leaffer delivered a paper entitled "Eldred in the USA or why Canadians Should Not Adopt Life + 70 for Duration of Copyright," at the Association Litt�raire Artistique Internationale (ALAI) annual copyright conference in Vienna, Austria.

Christian Legal Society Weekly Bible Study
The Christian Legal Society's weekly Bible Study session will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays in room 214. The sessions will run through Dec. 2.
Professor Cate Seeking Research Assistant
Professor Fred Cate is looking for one or two research assistants to work on projects in health information privacy, national security and privacy, and other information privacy issues. Hours and specific projects are negotiable. If interested, please send a resume and transcript to him at fcate@indiana.edu, or drop them off in his box in the second-floor mailroom.
1Ls Needed as Moot Court Bailiffs
The Moot Court board is currently seeking 1Ls to serve as bailiffs for the fall rounds of the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition. The time commitment is just one hour and those who participate will be entered into a drawing for a BARBRI gift certificate. If you are interested, contact the Moot Court board at lawmoot@indiana.edu.
SBA Bookstore Open
The SBA bookstore is now open Monday-Friday from noon to 1 p.m. If you want to purchase your books and supplements at a great price and/or want to sell your books at a price you set, the SBA bookstore is the place for you.
Scheduling Events
Beginning this semester, there is a new way for faculty and student groups to schedule events. An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.
ILA Submissions
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 856-1497). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter (av@exchange.iu.edu). Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
