THIS WEEK IN THE LAW SCHOOL
Indiana Law Annotated would like to welcome back our returning students and extend a special welcome to the class of 2013! Over the summer, the Law School had several exciting developments. The Honorable David F. Hamilton, judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, announced he is relocating his chambers to the Law Building. Construction of the chambers is ongoing on the second floor and expected to be completed in late September.
Professor Carole Silver, JD'80, joined the Indiana Law faculty in July. She will be teaching courses on the legal profession and has already begun work with the School's Center on the Global Legal Profession. Professor Silver will also direct the Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE). The Law School also welcomed Robert Downey, JD'06, and Catharine Du Bois, to the Legal Research and Writing program, and Gabrielle Goodwin, who joins the Graduate International Studies program.
Finally, in late July we were honored to announce a $1.5 million gift from David Henry Jacobs Jr. to endow the John E. Schiller Chair in Legal Ethics at the Law School. The holder of the Schiller Chair can specialize in any area of the law, but must demonstrate a commitment to the highest standard of legal professional ethics through her or his teaching, scholarship, and service. The name of the holder of the Schiller Chair will be announced this fall.

Interview Workshop: Substance and Style (2L and 3L)
First impressions are crucial and interviewing well is a skill, so the time you spend with recruiting employers can make or break your job search success. This workshop series, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 213, is designed to help you make the most of your interview experiences. Our goal is to empower you with the skills and confidence to succeed during your upcoming interviews. The substance session of this workshop will cover interview content: types of interviews, questions to prepare, research, and strategies for answering the toughest questions. Pizza will be provided for those who RSVP on Symplicity. (Note: September 1 session is a repeat of August 31 session).

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2
Government Honors and Other Public Interest Opportunities (2L and 3L)
Join the Office of Career and Professional Development and the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) for an informational meeting on finding internships and jobs in government on Thursday, Sept. 2, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 213. The government Honors & Internship program, including opportunities in federal, state, and local government, with many that have rapidly approaching deadlines; information on public defender and prosecutor searches and the B545 Criminal Externship program; and the final semester in DC will be among the discussed topics. This meeting will give you an opportunity to ask the OCPD staff questions about how to go about finding a position in the public sector. Pizza will be provided for those who RSVP on Symplicity.
FACULTY NEWS
Professor Jayanth Krishnan will serve as project director for an intensive study on the lower judiciary in India. Krishnan and his colleagues will conduct a pilot study of district courts in order to arrive at a preliminary understanding of what is happening in these forums. The study will also include an analysis of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) forums in India.
Executive Associate Dean and Professor of Law Hannah L. Buxbaum was cited in the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Morrison v. National Australia Bank in June. Buxbaum's article, "Multinational Class Actions under Federal Securities Law: Managing Jurisdictional Conflict," was cited in both the majority opinion and in a concurring opinion by Justice John Paul Stevens.
Professor John Applegate's "Synthesizing TSCA and REACH: Practical Principles for Chemical Regulation Reform" was selected as one of the top environmental law articles of 2009. The article will appear in Volume 41 of Thomson-West's Land Use and Environmental Law Review.
On April 8, Professor Marshall Leaffer presented a talk at the Fordham University 18th Annual Conference on International Intellectual Property and Policy, entitled "The International Gray Market and Its Ambiguities."
On April 10, Professor Leandra Lederman presented an idea for a tax policy paper in an "incubator" session at the Critical Tax Conference at St. Louis University School of Law. On Apr. 23, she presented her paper entitled "A Tisket, A Tasket: Basketing and Corporate Tax Shelters" at a tax colloquium at Washburn University School of Law. On May 29, she presented the same paper at the Law and Society Association meeting in Chicago.

Fire Alarm Information
Last week the Bloomington Fire Department was called to the Law Building after a fire alarm was activated by a welding torch. In the event of a fire alarm, everyone in the building is to evacuate at the nearest exit. Once outside, go to the south end of the Law Building, toward the corner of Third Street and Indiana Avenue. Please remain near the limestone wall until fire officials have cleared the building. The south end of the Law Building is where all communications related to the alarm will be provided. You may not re-enter the building until fire officials have confirmed that it is safe to do so. In the event of an alarm during normal business hours, members of the Law School emergency response team will be wearing neon vests and will guide you toward the south end of the Law Building. Please follow their directions during an alarm or any other emergency situation. Thank you for your cooperation.
Tour Guides Needed
As an Indiana Law student, you have the opportunity to play a significant role in the Law School's recruiting efforts for the class of 2014. If you are interested in sharing your Law School experiences with prospective students during their visits, please plan to attend tour guide training on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at noon in room 122. This meeting will explain the Law School's tour guide program and allow you the opportunity to sign up for a weekly class/tour assignment. Lunch will be provided. If you are unable to attend the meeting but want to participate in the program, contact Dani Weatherford, director of recruitment, at maweathe@indiana.edu.

Scheduling Events
Beginning this semester, there is a new way for faculty and student groups to schedule events. An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.
ILA Submissions
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 856-1497). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter (av@exchange.iu.edu). Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event.
