THIS WEEK IN THE LAW SCHOOL
The Law School's annual teaching awards ceremony takes place at noon on Monday in the Moot Court Room.
Any student enrolled in a B547/B514 course this summer is required to attend a meeting on Thursday at noon in room 121.
Remember to fill out the Access to Justice program's pro bono hours survey, being e-mailed on Saturday, April 24, to ensure you are recognized at Commencement. Wednesday will be the last day to report your hours to receive recognition at next month's ceremony.
The ILA is signing off until August and wishes everyone the best of luck on their final exams, and special congratulations to the class of 2010!

Please join us at noon on Monday, April 19, in the Moot Court Room for the presentation of the Wallace, Adjunct, and Trustees Teaching Awards and the Leonard Fromm Public Interest Award. We hope to see everyone there.
TUESDAY, APRIL 20
Law Journal and Advocacy Programs Meeting, Open House for 1Ls
The chiefs of the law journals and the appellate and trial advocacy programs will meet with the 1L class at noon on Tuesday, April 20, in the Moot Court Room. They will briefly provide relevant information about their respective organizations. Later, between 4 and 6 p.m., they will have an informal open house in the journal suites by the lockers (room 009). Representatives of the groups will be available to take personal questions regarding the decision to participate in one or more of the programs.
THURSDAY, APRIL 22
Any student taking either a B547 or B514 course this summer must attend the mandatory meeting at noon on Thursday, April 22, in room 121.
FACULTY NEWS
Professor Jeannine Bell presented a talk at the Duke Law School conference, "From Slavery to Freedom," honoring the life of John Hope Franklin on April 10. Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore opened the conference and though Professor Bell did get to shake his hand, she did not get a picture with him.
UPCOMING EVENTS
1L Indianapolis Law Firm Tour on May 14
Current 1Ls who are interested in the Indianapolis legal market will have the opportunity to attend a series of progressive "meet & greet" events to be hosted by various firms in Indianapolis throughout the day on May 14. This event, between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., will provide students with a unique opportunity to meet the recruiting teams and other members of the participating firms and, most importantly, to make a good first impression on them. In addition, each firm will make a brief presentation showcasing the firm's culture and the work that they do as a prelude to their on-campus interviewing and/or fall recruitment. Transportation will be provided. If you are interested in participating in this exciting new event, please register via Symplicity by Friday, May 7, 2010.

IP Program Co-sponsors Trademark Scholars' Roundtable
On April 15-17, the Law School's IP program co-sponsored the second Trademark Scholars' Roundtable. The event brings together leading trademark scholars to debate a cutting-edge topic in trademark law and policy — this year, permissible uses of trademarks. Professor Mark Janis and Professor Graeme Dinwoodie (Oxford, DePaul) founded the roundtable series and have organized both roundtables. Professors Marshall Leaffer and Kevin Collins also participated in this year's event. The roundtable was held at DePaul University College of Law, and the third roundtable is likely to be held at Indiana Law in 2011 or 2012.
Nathan Burkhan Competition: Due May 15, 2010
The deadline to submit a paper on a copyright law topic for the ASCAP Nathan Burkhan Competition is May 15. Papers should be submitted to Professor Marshall Leaffer's secretary, Barbara Cain in the required format, on or before that date. Phi Delta Phi Welcomes New Inductees
On April 14, Phi Delta Phi held its spring initiation ritual and would like to congratulate its newest members, Bella Bravo, Peter Day, Mohammad Khan, Chris Kozelichki, Aster Patel, Lauren Roddy, Adam Turner, and Fiona Wan, on their successful induction into our international legal fraternity.
International Peer Group Assistant Applications Due Friday
The Office of International Programs and Graduate Legal Studies is looking for 6-8 JD students with an interest in working with international students enrolled in the Law School's graduate programs (LLM, MCL, SJD) for 2010-11. The International Peer Group Assistant (IPGA) program is unrelated to the PGA program for JD students, though it does fulfill some similar needs. The IPGA program is intended to facilitate greater social interaction between international graduate students and JD students with the goals of creating a more unified student body, and helping international students feel at home in Bloomington and the Law School. It is also an excellent opportunity for U.S. students to learn about new countries, cultures, and legal systems. Duties: IPGAs will have their own groups of approximately ten international graduate students with whom they will meet regularly during the fall semester (and as needed in the spring semester) to discuss any issues of concern or interest to the groups. IPGAs will help plan/take part in events specifically for international students, as well as events aimed at mixing graduate and JD students. There is a lot of room for creativity. IPGAs will report to the Graduate Legal Studies staff, and staff meetings will be held regularly during the fall semester and as needed during the spring semester. Pay: Pay will be $700 for two semesters ($500 for fall semester only), credited to your bursar account. Preference will be given to students with international living or study abroad experience (or interest) who can be available to take part in new graduate student orientation beginning on Aug. 16. To apply, submit a current resume and brief statement of interest, including any relevant experience (e.g. travel, study abroad, friendships with current international students, language skills, volunteer experience, etc.) to Lesley Davis, assistant dean for international programs, at (leedavis@indiana.edu) by Friday, April 23.
JD Affiliates for the Center for Constitutional Democracy
The Center for Constitutional Democracy provides a few unpaid positions each year for law students to conduct research and carry out projects relating to the center's constitutional advising work in Burma, Vietnam and Liberia. The research may include work on human rights, electoral quotas, immigration policies, legal history, state versus customary law, and other topics. Further information about the center can be found at our Web site. If accepted, the student affiliate will work with the center's program director and research fellows on a project-by-project basis. The time commitment for affiliates is approximately four hours per week (and in some cases it may be more) and it is expected that affiliates will maintain involvement for the duration of the school year. Student affiliates will be provided with work space at the center, invited to center seminars and events, and given hands-on experience with the legal research necessary for democracy promotion and constitutional design in new and struggling democracies. Such work is a rare opportunity to be involved with reformers around the world and will be a valuable addition to resumes for students interested in careers in democracy promotion. Admissions Summer Assistant
The Admissions Office seeks to hire a first- or second-year law student to work as an admissions assistant. This person will help guide members of the class of 2013 through the process of moving to Bloomington, settling in, and preparing to begin class in either July or August. Duties will primarily involve calling and e-mailing students to answer questions and provide encouragement. The person should be a self-starter who is articulate, creative, and a good advocate. The assistant will also need to be empathetic and resourceful in order to assist incoming students with the varied hurdles they may encounter while preparing to begin law school. Hours are flexible. The position will be available on a part-time basis ($10/hr). Approximately 40-50 hours will be required during the summer until the beginning of fall classes. Depending on summer schedules (legal internships, study abroad, etc.), more than one student may be hired to share the duties. BARBRI has finished tabling for the semester. If you wish to sign up, you will need to do so through the Web site www.barbri.com. 1Ls can sign up now for any state and lock in your tuition price for your bar review class in 2012 or 2013, as well as get a helpful first-year review book containing a review of all of your required classes, example outlines, and helpful study questions. 2Ls can sign up and lock in their tuition prices for 2011 or 2012 and pick up their upper-level review book. 3Ls, if you pay your full tuition amount you can receive your MBE early study books now available at the BARBRI table, you may also pick up your upper-level review books if you have already signed up for BARBRI. ILA Submissions
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 856-1497). Indiana Law Annotated is archived online.
Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or (bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu) (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter (av@exchange.iu.edu). Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
