The Federalist Society presents, "President Obama's War on Terror: What 'Change'?" at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Two legal experts will discuss issues related to terrorism and the law.
The Office of Career and Professional Development continues its Career Choices series with state and local government leaders from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. Come hear how to put your JD to use in careers in state and local government offices.

Resume and Cover Letter Workshop
Your resume and cover letter are essential parts of your professional tool kit and often the first impression an employer will have of you as a candidate. Learn the basics of legal resume writing and ways to distinguish and market yourself on this single sheet of paper. This workshop, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 123, will also provide you with the tools to craft effective cover letters that get noticed. RSVP on Symplicity.

President Obama's War on Terror: What 'Change'?
Should the president close Guantanamo, prosecute detainee torture, and try terrorists in Article III federal courts? Or should he continue to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor? The Federalist Society hosts an open discussion featuring special guest speaker Bob Turner, associate director of the Center for National Security Law and professor of law at the University of Virginia, and Blake Puckett, director of strategic projects for the Center on American and Global Security at Indiana University. The panel begins at noon in the Moot Court Room. Bucceto's pizza will be served for lunch.

B547 Information Workshop
The Law School permits students engaged in unpaid legal work for nonprofit, government agencies, judges, or legal services organizations to receive up to four credits during the summer through this program. In order to participate, a student must secure an internship and complete an academic component for credit. Students who qualify will also be eligible for summer financial aid. Career Choices: State and Local Government
Not everyone wants to work in a law firm and you can put your JD to work in a variety of ways in state and local government. From noon to 1 p.m. in room 122, come hear from seasoned alumni about their career paths and learn how to break into this job market. Seating is limited, so RSVP on Symplicity.
Outreach for Legal Literacy Meeting

Shalom HELP Clinic: Spring Training
The Shalom HELP Clinic will have their spring training session on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Law School (room TBA). This training is mandatory for participation in the clinic. Students with interest should email Thomas Cook at tcook@indiana.edu. Representatives from the clinic will also be tabling on Wednesday to answer any questions.
Basic Mediation Training
The Community Justice Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 32-hour Basic Mediation Training for any community member interested in helping facilitate community mediations and victim-offender reconciliation. The winter training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 13-14 at the Law School. Participants who complete the training are eligible to work as CJAM volunteer mediators; however, any community member interested in learning basic mediation skills is welcome to participate. Professor Emeritus of Law Edwin H. Greenebaum will serve as the principle training instructor. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and taught Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation at Indiana Law until his retirement. Tuition is $200, with scholarships available. Professor Rob Fischman was a featured guest on WFIU's Noon Edition on Jan. 15. Professor Fischman was part of a panel that discussed the recent climate change summit in Copenhagen. The discussion was recorded and is available to stream online from WFIU.

The Financial Crisis: Will More Stimulus and Regulation Save Our Economy?
Stimulus, bailouts, cash for clunkers, etc. Is big government getting too big or do we need it to do everything in its power to rehabilitate the economy? The Federalist Society welcomes you to a debate between two outstanding economists: Fred Smith, president and founder of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, and Martin Spechler, PhD, professor of economics at Indiana University. The event, on Monday, Feb. 8, at noon, will be moderated by Indiana Law Professor Timothy Lynch. The panel will be held in the Moot Court Room.

The Black Law Students Association presents its annual Rapheal M. Prevot Barrister's Ball! Our theme this year is "A Night in Old Hollywood." This year's ball promises to be bigger, better, and more spectacular! Rinehart, Stoker Participate in ULI Competition
Two students in the JD/MBA program at the Indiana University's Maurer School of Law and the Kelley School of Business are participating in the eighth annual Urban Land Design/Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition. Jon Rinehart and Chris Stoker are participating in a multi-disciplinary team that will develop a comprehensive design and development program for an actual large-scale site. The team is responsible for delivering drawings, site plans, tables, and market-feasible financial data. The other team members consist of graduate students in architecture and landscape architecture at the University of Kansas. The two-week competition began on January 18. The winning team will receive $50,000; finalist teams will receive $10,000 each.
Admissions Tour Guides Needed
The admissions office is expecting an increase in the number of prospective student visitors this semester and will need additional assistance from tour guides. Tour guide responsibilities include escorting prospective students to a class and providing a tour of the Law School building. This is a great way to participate in the building of next year's class. If you are interested in serving as a tour guide, please contact Dani Weatherford, director of recruitment, at maweathe@indiana.edu, to schedule a short training session.
Announcing the 2010 Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition
Sponsored by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), this writing competition on copyright law is open to all second- and third-year students at Indiana Law. Two awards ($600 and $250) may be given at each participating law school, and those winning papers will then be forwarded on to the national competition. Students interested in the competition must contact Professor Marshall Leaffer at mleaffer@indiana.edu. For additional information, see www.ascap.com/burkan. Additional writing competitions are posted on the contests board across from room 022. A number of Indiana Law students have won previous writing competitions with awards as great as $4,000.
Report Your Pro Bono Hours For Graduation Recognition
All students who reported pro bono hours during the fall 2009 semester should have received an email indicating total hours reported for fall 2009. If you did not receive an email, or believe that your total hours are incorrect, please email Judy Reckelhoff and Megan Mullett, Pro Bono Fellows, at WeDoGood@indiana.edu. As a reminder: to receive graduation recognition, current 3Ls must report a minimum of 20 pro bono hours for the 2009-10 school year. (Current 2Ls must report a minimum of 40 hours before they graduate, and current 1Ls must report a minimum of 60 hours before they graduate.) Questions? Email: WeDoGood@indiana.edu.
ILA Submissions
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you have questions about an item appearing in the ILA, please contact James Boyd (joboyd@indiana.edu; phone 856-1497).
Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter av@exchange.iu.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
