TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 17
Securities Fraud Debate
Should Congress overturn Stoneridge Investment Partners, LLC, v. Scientific-Atlanta, Inc., et al. and expose lawyers and financial advisors to greater liability? The Federalist Society and Business Law Association co-host this John Templeton Foundation debate featuring M. Todd Henderson, University of Chicago Law School, and Indiana Law Professor Donna Nagy, at noon in room 122. Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) has introduced a bill in Congress — the Liability for Aiding and Abetting Securities Violations Act (S. 1551) — that would allow shareholders to sue secondary actors like lawyers and investment advisors for fraud that is committed by their corporate clients. The legislation would essentially overturn the Supreme Court's decisions in Central Bank (1995) and more recently Stoneridge (2008). Should Congress pass the Specter bill or let the cases stand? Lunch (Jimmy John's sandwiches) will be provided.
1L Interview Workshop
First impressions are crucial and interviewing well is a skill, so the time you spend with recruiting employers can make or break your job search success. This workshop, held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Moot Court Room, is designed to help you make the most out of your interview experiences. These interactive sessions will cover the comprehensive process including content, style, and what to wear to make a flawless first impression. Our goal is to empower you with the skills and confidence to succeed during your upcoming interviews. Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP on Symplicity.

BARBRI Student Appreciation Day
BARBRI will have a student appreciation day at noon in the lobby. All students will be eligible for the $50 sign-up price today only. BARBRI will continue to table from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday for the remainder of the semester. 1Ls can sign up now for any state and lock in your tuition price for your bar review class in 2012 (or 2013), as well as get a helpful first-year review book containing review of all of your required classes for your first year, example outlines, and helpful study questions. Upper-level students should stop by and pick up their upper-level review books. If you are interested in reviewing in Bloomington for a state other than Indiana (or if you have any questions about BARBRI) send an e-mail to Todd Phillips at phillita@indiana.edu. Attention LLM students, BARBRI is looking to hire an LLM to assist in sales. If you are interested in a free course drop off a resume with your contact information at the BARBRI table in the lobby.

On Nov. 6, Professor Ajay Mehrotra presented his paper, "American Economic Development, Managerial Corporate Capitalism, and the Institutional Foundations of the Modern Income Tax," at the Turning Points in the History of the Federal Income Tax Conference hosted by the journal Law & Contemporary Problems at the Duke University School of Law.

Semester, Summer Abroad Program Opportunities
1Ls and 2Ls interested in learning about opportunities to study abroad in the summer or for a semester in 2010-2011 are invited to attend a study abroad call-out meeting on Monday, Nov. 16 from noon to 12:55 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. Deans Len Fromm and Leslie Davis will briefly introduce the study abroad options and returned participants as well as current exchange students will be present to answer questions. We will discuss semester abroad from noon to 12:30 p.m. and summer abroad from 12:30 p.m. to 12:55 p.m. Come for one or both sessions. ELS Coal-Free Campus Campaign
The Environmental Law Society (ELS), in conjunction with the Sierra Club Student Coalition, is aiding in launching a national campaign at more than 60 universities to help transition our campuses beyond coal. We are calling on Indiana University to continue being the sustainability leader that it is by investing in efficient and renewable energy. If you would like to support campus clean energy, come by the ELS table this week from noon to 1p.m. and sign our petition asking for IU to act now and help shape our community's future.
Fletcher Fellowship
Named after Alphonse Fletcher Sr., fellowships are awarded to scholars, writers, and artists whose work contributes to improving race relations in American society and furthers the broad social goals of the U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education decision of 1954. Each fellowship is in the amount of $50,000. Applications and information are available on the Fletcher Foundation Web site at www.fletcherphilanthropy.org. Students who report their pro bono hours and reach the Law School's aspirational goal of 60 hours by the end of their 3L year will be recognized at graduation. CLS Bible Study
Christian Legal Society (CLS) is holding weekly Bible study and prayer on Thursdays at 8:15 a.m. in room 215 of the Law School. Unsure if you'd like to attend Bible study? Prayer requests presented to the study group will remain anonymous/confidential unless otherwise requested.
Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter av@exchange.iu.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
