THIS WEEK IN THE LAW SCHOOL
The Federalist Society student chapter hosts Sandy Froman, a former two-term president of the National Rifle Association and a practicing attorney, on Tuesday at noon in room 122. She will discuss the Chicago and Washington, D.C., gun ban cases and host a question-and-answer session afterward.
The Access to Justice Program will be hosting a panel discussion featuring Dean Lauren Robel, Professor Earl Singleton, and Professor Alex Tanford on Wednesday at noon in room 121. Panelists will discuss their exciting pro bono cases, and lunch will be served courtesy of BARBRI.

CIA/OSC Information Session
Please join us from noon to 1 p.m. in room 213 for a career information session and Q&A discussing what lawyers can do in the CIA and Open Source Center. IDC Lecture: Valerie Bunce
Valerie J. Bunce, Aaron Binenkorb Professor of International Studies and Professor of Government at Cornell University, will present "Transnational Networks, Diffusion Dynamics, and Democratizing Elections in Postcommunist Europe and Eurasia" from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Woodburn Hall, room 218. The event is sponsored by the Indiana Democracy Consortium.

LSRJ November Meeting
Join the Law Students for Reproductive Justice (LSRJ) at noon in room 124 to discuss upcoming events, and, in honor of election day, discussing how to learn about candidate views on reproductive justice issues.
The Chicago Gun Ban: What Do the McDonald and Heller Cases Mean for Your Civil Right to Bear Arms?
Will "guns" be the new "abortion" for the Roberts Court? The Federalist Society student chapter hosts Sandy Froman, a former two-term president of the National Rifle Association and practicing attorney, at noon in room 122. She will discuss the Chicago and Washington, D.C., gun ban cases. Just two weeks ago, the U.S. Supreme Court granted cert. to the McDonald v. Chicago case, which deals with the federalism question of whether the Second Amendment should be incorporated to the states and municipalities? Bucceto's pizza will be served.
1L Self Assessment Workshop
A 1L self-assessment workshop will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in room 123. Who do you think you are? Your personal career development starts with a self reflection of your values, interests, personality, and skills. ACS Voter ID Law Discussion
In September, the Indiana Court of Appeals struck down the state's voter identification law, holding that the statute violates the Indiana Constitution. Find out why at noon (room TBA) with Professor Luis Fuentes-Rohwer as he discusses the League of Women Voters v. Rokita in the context of previous voter identification litigation. This will be the first in a series of brown bag lunches organized by the American Constitution Society (ACS) involving faculty discussing current, high-impact issues in their areas of interest. It's a great chance to meet faculty and explore different areas of law!

Career Choices: Nonprofit, Development, and Foundation
A panel discussion on Career Choices: Nonprofit, Development, and Foundation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in room 213. The panel, which includes Chris Malloy, president of Bloomington Hospital Foundation; Brian Williams, JD'89, vice president of development for the Children's Museum of Indianapolis; Gavin Rose, JD'06, ACLU of Indiana; and Cindy Lott, lead counsel on the Charities Regulation and Oversight Project at the National State Attorneys General Program at Columbia Law School, will discuss their careers in the nonprofit, public interest, foundation and development fields. Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP in Symplicity.
FACULTY NEWS
Professor Rob Fischman delivered two talks over fall break. On Oct. 22, he discussed the relationship between "adaptive management" and administrative law at the ABA Administrative Law Section's annual conference. On Oct. 23, he discussed the legal issues bearing on management of the national wildlife refuges at the National Conservation Training Center.
On Oct. 23, Professor Leandra Lederman presented her article "A Tisket, A Tasket: Basketing and Corporate Tax Shelters" at the Central States Law Schools Association meeting hosted by Capital University Law School.
UPCOMING EVENTS
FLF Gender Equity Coffee Break
The Feminist Law Forum (FLF) is hosting its fourth Annual Gender Equity Coffee Break to raise awareness and provoke discussion about gender and salary inequality. Coffee, donuts, and bagels will be amply available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, in the Law School lobby. Your recommended contribution is proportionate to your projected earning potential, as determined by your gender and race. All proceeds go to Middle Way House, a local center that helps victims of rape and domestic violence with housing, employment, mentoring, legal, and service needs.
International Finance and Emerging Global Environmental Law
The Environmental Law Society and the Department of Governance and Management at SPEA are proud to sponsor a discussion with esteemed author, attorney, and environmental advocate Bruce Rich. Rich's presentation will be on the role of public international financial institutions, like the World Bank, and their role in emerging global environmental governance. The discussion will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, in room 125. Lunch will be provided to the first 100 attendees, and students from the greater campus are welcome to attend.
Rich has worked for the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Defense Fund, the World Bank, and USAID. He has written several books as well as articles and editorials for publications such as The Financial Times, The Nation, The Ecologist, and The Environmental Forum. In 1988, Rich was accorded the United Nations Environment Program "Global 500 Award," the highest environmental prize given by the UN. PAD Fashion Show, Auction
Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) will be selling tickets this week for the sixth Annual Fashion Show and Auction. Your peers will model examples of proper attire for various professional situations, such as interviews, business luncheons, golf outings, etc. Each model will represent a date package to use with your friends or loved ones that the audience can bid on. The packages will include several different items and perks so groups of students are encouraged to pool their money together. All the money raised will benefit the Shalom Community Center and the Protective Order Project. The event will be held at the Bluebird on Friday, Nov. 13. Please get your tickets at lunch or get in free by donating three items of gently used professional clothing.
Securities Fraud Debate
Should Congress overturn Stoneridge and expose lawyers and financial advisors to greater liability? The Federalist Society and Business Law Association co-host this John Templeton Foundation debate featuring M. Todd Henderson, University of Chicago Law School, and Professor Donna Nagy at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 17, in room 122. Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) has introduced a bill in Congress — the Liability for Aiding and Abetting Securities Violations Act (S. 1551) — that would allow shareholders to sue secondary actors like lawyers and investment advisors for fraud that is committed by their corporate clients. The legislation would essentially overturn the Supreme Court's decisions in Central Bank (1995) and more recently Stoneridge (2008). Should Congress pass the Specter bill or let the cases stand?

Golf Tournament
Earlier this month, the Kelley and Maurer Schools hosted a joint school golf outing. The winning team was composed of law students Casey Plant, Will Brumby, Chris Nusbaum, and Elliot Anderson, with a winning score of four under par at the IU course. There is no truth to the rumor that one player carried the whole team. Congratulations to the team!

CLS Bible Study
Christian Legal Society (CLS) is holding weekly Bible study and prayer on Thursdays at 8:15 a.m. in room 215 of the Law School. Unsure if you'd like to attend Bible study? BARBRI Tabling
BARBRI will be tabling from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday for the remainder of the semester. 1Ls can sign up now for any state for only $50 (offer ends the week of Nov. 9), lock in your tuition price for your bar review class in 2012 (or 2013), and get a helpful first-year review book containing review of all of your required classes for your first year as well as example outlines and helpful study questions. Upper-level students should stop by and pick up their upper-level review books. Upper-level student sign-up requires $250. If you are interested in reviewing in Bloomington for a state other than Indiana (or if you have any questions about BARBRI) send an email to Todd Phillips at phillita@indiana.edu. If enough students sign up we may hold courses for other states in Bloomington for the summer.
Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter at av@exchange.iu.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
