Join Darell E. "Gene" Zink, Jr., JD'76, and Rory O'Bryan, JD'72, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, for a presentation on recent economic events. Zink will present "Real Estate, Credit Markets, and the Economy," at noon in the Moot Court Room. O'Bryan will serve as host and moderator.
Sports and Entertainment Law Society (SELS) presents Michael Uslan, JD'76, at noon on Friday, Oct. 2 (room TBA). Uslan is the producer of Batman, The Spirit, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, National Treasure, Constantine, and more.

PDP Members-only Meeting
There is a formal meeting for all members of Phi Delta Phi (PDP) at noon (room TBA). Things are looking great for us this year, and we want to hear your input and ideas. We will be voting on exciting philanthropy, fund-raising, and social events the executive board is planning for you this year, and can answer any questions regarding scholarship applications. Lambda Law Society Call-out Meeting
The Lambda Law Society, the LGBT advocacy and support group, is having a call-out meeting at noon in room 122.
Moot Court Needs 1L & 2L Bailiffs
The Sherman Minton Moot Court Board is seeking bailiffs for the 2009-2010 Moot Court Competition. A call-out meeting will be held at noon in room 125. All 1Ls are welcome and encouraged to serve as bailiffs, as are any 2Ls who are not participating in the competition. Bailiffs play a key role in carrying out a successful Moot Court Competition. Serving as a bailiff gives you the opportunity to network with Indiana Law faculty and alumni and to experience the competition firsthand. Most Sherman Minton Moot Court competitors consider their prior experience as bailiffs to be an invaluable component of their preparation for the competition as 2Ls. Bailiff responsibilities consist of helping to set up competition rooms, announcing the judges, and keeping time during the arguments. The time commitment is only one hour and you can sign up for as many argument slots as you would like. All bailiffs will receive a free t-shirt and will be entered to win one of two $250 BARBRI Scholarships! Real Estate, Credit Markets, and the Economy

Zink is the co-founder of both the Duke Realty Corporation and Strategic Capital Partners. O'Bryan is a partner with Harrison & Moberly in Indianapolis, and an adjunct professor at the Law School. JD/LLM Socctoberfest: Time to Play Futbol
The Seventh Annual JD/LLM Socctoberfest will take place at Karst Farm Park. This hallowed coed event is open to JD and LLM students of all ability levels. The soccer games will start at 4:30 p.m., followed by a cookout at approximately 6:30 p.m. that is open to entire Law School community, including family and friends. FACULTY NEWS
Professor Jim Barnes has been elected to membership in the American College of Environmental Lawyers and is one of seven in the first group of lawyers in academia to be so honored. The college is a professional association of pre-eminent lawyers who practice in the field of environmental law. Others elected at the same time include Richard Lazarus, Steve Ramsey, Joseph Sax, James Gustave Speth, and Richard Stewart.
Professor Craig Bradley has been appointed to the Governor's Criminal Code Evaluation Commission, which is charged with proposing reforms to the Indiana Criminal Code. His book, The Failure of the Criminal Procedure Revolution, has been translated into Chinese, causing him to expect sales of about a billion more copies than Professor Leaffer's book that was merely translated into Japanese.
Professor Marshall Leaffer presented a paper, "Create, Invest Preserve: Ideological Discourse and the Protection of Traditional Knowledge," at the annual Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) held this year in Vilnius, Lithuania, from Sept. 13-17. Leaffer greatly profited from the conference and is grateful that some people liked his talk — or at least they politely said so. He wishes, however, that places like Vilnius were easier to get to from south central Indiana.
UPCOMING EVENTS
WLC Etiquette Dinner
Join the Women's Law Caucus (WLC) and the Office of Career and Professional Development for the annual Etiquette Dinner. The guest speaker, Joe Boes, will guide us through an evening of fine dining from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, in the Federal Room of the Indiana Memorial Union. Tickets are $27 and can be purchased from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Office of Career and Professional Development, located on the ground level of the Law School in room 020. The WLC will also be selling tickets in the lobby during the noon hour until Monday, Oct. 5. Get your tickets soon as space is limited. Students are welcome to purchase a ticket for a guest to attend this event.

PAD Tabling
Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) will be tabling from noon to 1 p.m. this week to collect applications and dues for new members and dues for current members. Applications for new members are due Friday, Oct. 1.
CLS Bible Study
Christian Legal Society (CLS) is holding Bible Study/Prayer and Fellowship on Thursdays at 8:15 a.m. in room 215 of the Law School. We will do formal study/conversation from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. If you want to drop by for more informal conversation/fellowship, some of us plan to be there earlier and stay a bit later.

BARBRI Tabling
BARBRI will be tabling from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday for the remainder of the semester. 1Ls can sign up now for any state for only $50 (limited time offer, additional $50 payment due Oct. 31, 2010), lock in your tuition price for your bar review class in 2012 (or 2013), and get a helpful first-year review book containing review of all of your required classes for your first year as well as example outlines and helpful study questions. Upper-level students should stop by and pick up their upper-level review books. Upper-level student sign-up requires $250. Don't forget to sign up for the MPRE and the BARBRI MPRE review course. You must have $250 paid on your account to sign up for the MPRE review.
Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter at av@exchange.iu.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
ILA Submissions
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition.
