THIS WEEK IN THE LAW SCHOOL
Jeremy Horder, a professor of criminal law at Worcester College, University of Oxford, and Law Commissioner for England and Wales, will present the Branigin Lecture, "Law Commissions, Experts, and Law Reform: the Case of Homicide," at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the Moot Court Room.
David Lazerwitz, JD'95, from the law firm Farella Braun + Martel LLP, will present "Renewable Energy Development on Federal Public Lands," from 8:15 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, in room 222.
Alumni from all over the country will be at the Law School Friday, Sept. 25, for the second annual Alumni Summit. A full day of board meetings will be followed by the official naming of the Law School at 5 p.m. at the IU Auditorium. President Michael McRobbie, Janie and Michael Maurer, JD'67, Dean Lauren Robel, JD'83, and others will celebrate the official naming of the Michael Maurer School of Law.

Jeremy Horder Visit
Jeremy Horder, a professor of criminal law at Worcester College, University of Oxford, and Law Commissioner for England and Wales, will present a colloquium titled "Philosophy and Morality in the Courtroom: Defences in Criminal Law," from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Faculty Conference Room. His research interests include law reform, the historical and philosophical foundations of criminal law, and criminal law theory. Among his scholarly publications are Provocation and Responsibility

ELS: An Evening at Oliver Winery
As Environmental Law Society (ELS) has done in years past, we will once again be holding our annual wine tasting and silent auction at Oliver Winery. This year's fundraiser will take place from 7 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Tickets are $15 for non-ELS members and $10 for ELS members. The event is open to everyone and will be attended by alumni and faculty in addition to students. The ticket price includes entrance to the event, a glass of wine, free tastings, and hors d'oeuvres. We will also have a musical guest that evening, and the winery will have a cash bar. If you do not drink, your drink ticket can be redeemed for a non-alcoholic beverage. Tickets are on sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Law School lobby through Wednesday. Cash or checks will be accepted. If you are interested in joining ELS, you may also pay your dues at that time. Lazerwitz: Renewable Energy Development on Federal Public Lands
As part of the Law School's Alumni Summit, the Environmental Law Alumni Advisory Group will be meeting. Before the meeting, one of its members, David Lazerwitz, JD'95, from the law firm Farella Braun + Martel LLP, will present "Renewable Energy Development on Federal Public Lands," from 8:15 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. in room 222. The talk will be open to the university community. Please come if you are interested.
Alumni Summit and Law School Naming Ceremony
Alumni from across the country will be at the Law School throughout the day as part of the second annual Alumni Summit. Following the day's meetings, the official naming of the Michael Maurer School of Law will take place at 5 p.m. at the IU Auditorium. IU President Michael McRobbie, Dean Lauren Robel, JD'83, Michael Maurer, JD'67, and Provost Karen Hanson will deliver remarks. U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana Judge Sarah Evans Barker will deliver the keynote address. A reception will follow.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26
PILF Softball Tournament
The IU Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) will be sponsoring its annual Softball Tournament at 1 p.m. in Bryan Park. A BBQ will follow around 6 p.m. Cost is $10 per person to play and eat or $5 per person to watch and eat (or the donation of five canned food items for the food drive). Visit the PILF table during the lunch hour this week for more information. You can gather a whole team (9-12 players), sign up individually, or even sign up to volunteer on Saturday as umpires, grillmasters, set-up crews, etc. Sign-up forms can be found under the "Documents" tab on the new Web site (www.iupilf.org). Proceeds go to support law students working unpaid summer internships in public interest jobs. We hope to see you all out there!

CLS Bible Study
Christian Legal Society (CLS) is holding Bible Study/Prayer and Fellowship on Thursdays at 8:15 a.m. in room 215 of the Law School. We will do formal study/conversation from 8:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. If you want to drop by for more informal conversation/fellowship, some of us plan to be there earlier and stay a bit later.

Research Assistants Needed
Professor David P. Fidler, James Louis Calamaras Professor of Law and director of the IU Center on American and Global Security, is seeking two research assistants to help him conduct research on rule of law efforts related to the campaign in Afghanistan. Second- and third-year law students interested in applying to be a research assistant should send Professor Fidler (dfidler@indiana.edu) an electronic copy of his or her CV and a statement of interest (no more than one page), which should include any relevant skills or prior experiences that would enhance the application. Deadline for submitting application materials is Sept. 21, 2009, with work for those selected starting at the beginning of October. Questions should be directed to Professor Fidler (dfidler@indiana.edu, 5-6403; room 321).
BARBRI Tabling
BARBRI will be tabling from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday for the remainder of the semester. 1Ls can sign up now for any state for only $50 (limited time offer, additional $50 payment due Oct. 31, 2010), lock in your tuition price for your bar review class in 2012 (or 2013), and get a helpful first-year review book containing review of all of your required classes for your first year as well as example outlines and helpful study questions. Upper-level students should stop by and pick up their upper-level review books. Upper-level student sign-up requires $250. Don’t forget to sign up for the MPRE and the BARBRI MPRE review course. You must have $250 paid on your account to sign up for the MPRE review.
Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Max Exter at av@exchange.iu.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.

The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition.
