Summer Opportunities in Africa
Pamela Tibihikirra-Kalyegira, a law professor in Uganda and an Indiana Law SJD candidate, will discuss summer opportunities in Africa at noon in room 124. Drinks and desserts will be provided. Uganda consists of 45 individual ethnic groups. In addition to its rich cultural heritage, Uganda is blessed with bountiful natural resources. Following independence from British colonial rule in 1962, Uganda suffered from internal conflict. Today, however, the country has achieved relative stability. That said, the conflict amongst its neighbors — the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Sudan — is spilling over the border. While the country has a promising future, many challenges must first be overcome. You can help be a part of that process. Wonderful opportunities await individuals interested in human rights, international criminal law, development issues, and international commercial law. These include internships with international and local NGOs, Uganda's top law firms as well as possible judicial clerkships and study opportunities. Please join us to discuss these opportunities and learn about Uganda's legal system. For more information please contact ils@indiana.edu.
PDP General Meeting
Phi Delta Phi (PDP) is having its February meeting at noon in room 125. The Expansion of Executive Power
Pulitzer-prize winner Charlie Savage and Professor Michael Grossberg will present "The Expansion of Executive Power: From Lincoln to Obama" at 6:30 p.m. at the Whittenberger Auditorium. Savage, the author of Takeover: The Return to the Imperial Presidency and the Subversion of American Democracy, will discuss the expansion of executive power in recent administrations. Grossberg will address Abraham Lincoln's use of executive power during the Civil War and how it compares to the use of executive power in the modern day. A question-and-answer session will follow. The event is co-sponsored by the Indiana University Maurer School of Law.
