THIS WEEK IN THE LAW SCHOOL
The Federalist Society presents "Who Will Obama Appoint to our Courts?" at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 18, in room 121, featuring Curt Levey, director of the Committee For Justice (Washington, D.C.), and commentary by Professor Dan Conkle.
A three-person panel will discuss various aspects of US-China trade relations from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Moot Court Room. The event is free and open to all. Following the panel discussion, there will be a dinner at Mark Pi's China Gate. Tickets are $15, available in the lobby during the lunch hour.
The "Equality Disco-Sadie Hawkins Style" will start at 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, at Uncle E's. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door.

Cover Letter Workshop
The Office of Career & Professional Development hosts a Cover Letter Workshop from noon to 1 p.m. in room 123. Your cover letter is the first writing sample a prospective employer will see. Learn the essentials of this marketing piece which introduces your resume. It's so important to customize your letters since templates are counter productive and off-putting to employers. Info Session on the Patent Bar
If you are a student with an undergrad degree (or at least about two years of course work) in engineering, computer sciences or the hard sciences (chemistry, biology, physics, some related fields), and are interested in becoming a Patent Agent or Attorney, Practising Law Institute (PLI) invites you to a presentation by Mark Dighton, PLI's Director of Law School Relations and a Director of their Patent Bar Review Course from noon to 1 p.m. in room 216. Topics for discussion include: the latest info on the Patent Bar Exam — who can take it, and how it works, now that it's on computer; when you should take it (you don't need to…and probably shouldn't…wait until you graduate); how and when the new rules changes coming out of the Patent Office will impact the exam; and recommendations on when and how to study for this very difficult exam. Scholarships to PLI's other IP programs will also be discussed. RSVP on Symplicity.
US-China Trade Relations
The International Law Society, East Asian Studies Center, and International Programs are co-sponsoring a panel and dinner. The three-person panel will discuss various aspects of US-China trade relations from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. The event is free and open to all. Following the panel discussion, all are invited to join us for dinner at Mark Pi's China Gate. Each table will have one of our honored LLM's to discuss Chinese business and dinner etiquette. It will be a great evening to enjoy good food while learning about another culture! Tickets for the dinner are $15 and will be sold in the lobby during the lunch hour.

Women's Law Caucus (WLC) will have a general meeting at noon, room TBA. All are welcome. You can still pay dues at this meeting which are $15 payable to the Women’s Law Caucus. Lunch is provided.

Equality Disco-Sadie Hawkins Style
Lambda Legal and Feminist Law Forum invite you to “buck†gender norms at the "Equality Disco-Sadie Hawkins Style." Uncle E's is hosting, located at 1614 W. 3rd Street. The fun starts at 9 p.m., and we'll be closing the bar down! Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Wear what you want! Be who you want! You're going to a gay bar! Girls will be boys and boys will be girls; it's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world! All proceeds benefit Indiana Equality, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to the realization of full economic, social, and political equality for GLBT Hoosiers and their families. FACULTY NEWS
Professor Kevin Brown appeared on two different panels at the Immigration Law & Public Policy Symposium held at Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law on Friday, Nov. 7. Brown delivered remarks titled “International Boarding Schools Established in Ghana as Charter Schools for U.S. Urban Schoolchildren†on the panel Education and Immigration. Brown also delivered remarks on the panel entitled International Immigration that focused on the changing racial and ethnic ancestry of blacks on affirmative action.
On Oct. 6, Professor Marshall Leaffer gave a talk before the annual ALAI conference (Association Littéraire et Artistique Internationale) in Dubrovnik, Croatia, titled "Protecting Cultural Expression and Indigenous Knowledge, a Jaundiced View.†On Oct. 27, he spoke before the Paris Chamber of Commerce in Paris. His talk was titled "Internet 2.0 et la réponse graduée, un perspective américain."
On Nov. 8, 2008, Professor Leandra Lederman presented an essay entitled "Reducing Information Gaps to Reduce the Federal Tax Gap" at the Closing the Tax Gap conference at Stanford Law School.

FLS Shirt Sale
The Family Law Society (FLS) will be having a holiday family shirt sale. We will be tabling at lunch next Wednesday and the week after Thanksgiving break. This is a great idea to get a head start on your holiday shopping! Polo shirts will be available for $25, and are available in crimson, black, navy, purple, and forest green. The following sizes are available: S, M, L, and XL. The polos will have IU's logo and one of the following words on the front left side: "IU Law Dad," "IU Law Mom," or "IU Law Grandparent." Onesies for babies will also be available for $15, or 2 for $20. These will be available in fuchsia, pink, lavender, baby blue, and grass. PDP Toy Drive
Phi Delta Phi (PDP) is conducting its annual toy drive for donations for the Marine Corp Toys for Tots Campaign. A bin for donations has been placed in front of the library. Please donate new, unwrapped toys during November and December to be distributed to needy children in the community. Free MPRE Review Course
Kaplan PMBR has an online review course for the MPRE exam. It includes online access to the MPRE lecture, substantive outline book, and practice questions and exam with detailed answers. Available in early October, students can get a jump on preparing for the MPRE by watching the lecture whenever they want and as often as they need. Scheduling Events
All e-mails about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services should be sent to Sarah Wissel at sjwissel@indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
