THIS WEEK IN THE LAW SCHOOL
Entertainment law attorney Jonathan Faber will talk with students at noon on Tuesday, March 6, in room 124.
Law students and legal professionals will discuss "Behind the Curtain: Character and Fitness Reviews for Aspiring Indiana Bar Applicants" from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, in the Moot Court Room.
Latanya Sweeney, associate professor of Computer Science, Technology and Policy in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, will present "Learning Where People Have Been Without Knowing Who They Are" at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, in the Faculty Conference Room (335). Pizza and drinks will be available.

ELS March Meeting
The Environmental Law Society (ELS) will hold its March meeting from noon to 1 p.m. in room 122. Agenda includes inter alia getting the story from our Pace Moot court team, psyching up for the National meeting over spring break, and an update on Greendrinks. Entertainment Law Attorney Jonathan Faber
Jonathan Faber, head of the Licensing Division at Sommer Barnard, will speak and answer questions about his work at noon in room 124. Faber is the former president of CMG Worldwide (http://www.cmgworldwide.com/clients.html), which handles the publicity rights for a number of high-profile celebrities. Lunch will be provided. This event is open to all students.
PDP Membership Meeting
Phi Delta Phi (PDP) International Legal Fraternity will have a general membership meeting at noon in room 214. All members are asked to attend and, as always, anyone interested in membership is welcome!
Judicial Clerkships Panel with Recent Alumni
Recent alumni who are currently clerking will lead a discussion on judicial clerkships from noon to 1 p.m. in room 122. All students are welcome.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7
Character and Fitness Seminar
The Indiana State Bar Association's (ISBA) Professional Legal Education Admission & Development Section (PLEADS) will sponsor a 1.5 Ethics CLE on Character & Fitness from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. Law students and legal professionals will discuss "Behind the Curtain: Character and Fitness Reviews for Aspiring Indiana Bar Applicants." Members of the Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness and volunteer student actors-applicants will demonstrate the character and fitness interview that is required of every applicant for the Indiana Bar. Representatives of the State Board of Law Examiners will discuss character and fitness and be available to answer questions. Presenters include: Mary Place Godsey, Executive Director, State Board of Law Examiner; Philip A. Sallee, JD'73, Character & Fitness Committee; Sheila Corcoran, Vice President, State Board of Law Examiners; and Paula F. Cardoza, JD'82, Supreme Court Administrator. Pre-registration is not required.
Trivia Night at Buffalo Wild Wings with LLSA
Ladies and gentlemen, start getting your teams together. It's time to put your random knowledge to the test. The Latino Law Student Association (LLSA) will be hosting a trivia night at Buffalo Wild Wings, located at 1350 W. Bloomfield Road. Enjoy food, prizes, and $3 pilsners. Prize sponsors include Starbucks, Buffalouies, Lazerlite, and Associates of Integrative Health (massages). Teams will be competing in groups of five. The cost of team entry is $10 per person.

CACR Speaker Series: Latanya Sweeney
Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR) Speaker Series presents Latanya Sweeney, associate professor of Computer Science, Technology and Policy in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. She will present "Learning Where People Have Been Without Knowing Who They Are" at 11:45 a.m. in the Faculty Conference Room (335). Sweeney will discuss a method for tracking people over time while maintaining privacy. This talk introduces a provable privacy-preserving system for gathering service utilization patterns of clients while guaranteeing the privacy of those clients. While the government learns personal utilization patterns, the government does not learn the identity of the clients. This work allows the new government surveillance system to comply with the stringent anonymity requirements of recent regulation and surpasses earlier minimal privacy risk approaches. The talk will include discussions about identifiability of data and data anonymity. Pizza and drinks will be available.

FACULTY NEWS
On Feb. 9, Professor Charles Geyh delivered the keynote address at the annual meeting of the National Conference of Bar Presidents and the National Association of Bar Executives in Miami. On Feb. 12, the American Bar Association approved a new Model Code of Judicial Conduct; the Code was promulgated by the ABA's Joint Commission to Evaluate the Model Code of Judicial Conduct. Professor Geyh has served as co-reporter for the commission since 1993. This is the third time that the Code has been revised since its creation in 1924.

Please join the Public Interest Law Founcation (PILF) as Director of Financial Aid Jim Schutter presents "Mission Possible: Strategies for Affording a Career in Public Interest Law." Dean Fromm will also discuss details about the School's loan repayment assistance programs. The presentation directly follows PILF's general meeting at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, in room 124.
SBA Casino Night
Get excited for SBA's annual Casino Night held in conjunction with Spring Law Day. Play poker and welcome prospective students from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, in the Faculty Lounge. The cost is $10 if you are playing poker and $5 if you are just playing blackjack. Food and drink will be provided. There will be prizes for the winners!
Join the Health Law Society in the IU Relay For Life!
Hate cancer? Participate in the 2007 Indiana University Relay For Life, the largest national fund raising event for the American Cancer Society. This 24-hour event will take place March 31 to April 1. Everyone is welcome to join our team you do not have to me a member of the Health Law Society. SBA Hosts Spring Golf Tournament
The Student Bar Association (SBA) will host its Spring Golf Tournament at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at Eagle Pointe. The cost is $30 per golfer. The format will be a four-man scramble. Save the date and watch for more details.

1L Academic Planning Sessions
Dean Len Fromm will conduct several Academic Planning Sessions for first year students this week. The sessions will cover important information regarding the course selection process for next fall and beyond. All sessions will be held in the Moot Court Room (123) and cover the same material. 1Ls should choose to attend one session time that best fits their schedule: Tuesday, March 6, 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursday, March 8, 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.; or Friday, March 9, 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Congratulations National Trial Competition Team
The National Trial Competition Team competed in the Midwest regional tournament Feb. 15-17. The team of Francis Granados, Katie Jackson, and Sandy Davis finished fourth overall, losing a close round in the semifinals by only two points. Congratulations to all. Other team members who participated were Jason Clarke, Rachel Donahou, Pete Holiday, Jim Shanahan, Craig Smith, and Kat Worsham (coach).
Associate Justice Applications
The Student Body Supreme Court of Indiana University is currently accepting applications for Associate Justice positions for the 2007-2008 school year. You can pick up an application in the Indiana University Student Association office (room 387 in the Student Activities Tower of the IMU), or online. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 9, in the IUSA office or via e-mail to court@indiana.edu. For questions or further information, please contact Chief Justice Meghan Dwyer at madwyer@indiana.edu. The court is the judicial branch of IUSA. We hear campus judicial board cases that have been appealed, acting as student representatives on three-person hearing commissions. We also confirm the new IUSA executive administration each year and make decisions when IUSA campaign issues arise or election results are disputed. We hold conferences with campus judicial boards to determine the consistency of sanctions and are also involved in editing the Student Code of Conduct. Additionally, court members serve on advisory boards such as the Bloomington Faculty Council, the University's Technology Policy Committee, and the Student Legal Services Advisory Board. The court is unique in that its decisions have the potential to impact the entire campus. Once appointed, an Associate Justice may serve on the court for the remainder of his or her time at IU.
Submit Your Photos for Graduation Display
It is time to begin the planning for the graduation display for the lobby. As we have done in the past, we want to do a collage of pictures, memorabilia and clippings commemorating your years of law school. We have already gathered a few things, but the real source of such items is all of you. We will return all the items to you following graduation. Please submit print pictures (standard sizes), digital photos, law school memorabilia, newspaper clippings (with newspaper and date), and anything else of significance to you which will fit in the display case and is in reasonably good taste. Please get these items to us as soon as possible. The display goes up in early April. The submission deadline is March 23.
Each item must have a completed form attached that includes your first and last name and the address where you want it returned. You can pick up these forms at the Reference Desk or in the Library Office. For pictures, include the first and last name of each person in the picture as well as what current class standing is (1L, 2L, 3L, NonLaw), what event is pictured, and what year it was taken. You may also include a caption if you would like. We reserve the right to omit any item if needed. Give items only to the librarians in the reference office or to the secretary to the Law Library director. To ensure they are not lost or that we have all the necessary information to return the items, do not just leave them in the office or at the Circulation Desk.
SBA Bookstore Hours
SBA will be having Bookstore Hours again this semester. Check the door for our regular hours. Feel free to come in and buy your books or drop off last semester's books to be sold. In addition, some books are not always available at the SBA Bookstore. Therefore, SBA now has an Amazon.com bookstore site. You can purchase new and used books as well as study aids at this Web site. Scheduling Events
All e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!
Audio-Video Services
Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
ILA SUBMISSIONS
The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition.
