Over a Cup of Tea presents "Wen Ho Lee: Free at Last"
Tony Fargo, assistant professor in the IU School of Journalism, and Norris Wang, JD'83, Magistrate Judge in Tippecanoe County, are the featured speakers at the Over a Cup of Tea presentation of "Wen Ho Lee: Free at Last" from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Asian Culture Center, 807 E. 10th Street. Wen Ho Lee was the former nuclear weapons scientist who was fired from his job at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. Lee was never charged with espionage, but he was placed in solitary confinement for nine months. In 2000, Lee was released after pleading guilty to mishandling computer files. In June this year, Lee settled his privacy lawsuit and will receive $1.6 million from the government and five news organizations (AP, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and ABC). What are the implications of this settlement to government officials and journalists? How sacred is it to protect the media's confidential sources? Join us for a discussion of issues relating to media and government responsibility and protection of privacy rights.
