HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 26
The Environmental Law Society will host its annual "Evening at Oliver Winery" from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. The evening includes food, drink, a silent auction, live music, and great company. Tickets are $20 for nonmembers and $10 for ELS members.
The Law School community is encouraged to attend the only annual school event that brings together JD students and international graduate students in a sporting atmosphere. Now in its third year, the revered JD/LLM Socctoberfest will kick off again at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, at Karst Farm Park. Join students, faculty, staff, and friends for the games and the cookout.
The Law School is privileged to welcome William C. Rust Jr., a 1968 graduate of the Law School, as a practitioner in residence this week. Rust's distinguished legal career, which spans nearly 40 years, includes his service as in-house counsel for Bank of America and as a partner with Jensen Rust & Doyle in San Francisco. In both domestic and international forums, Rust has represented major banks, borrowers, investors, guarantors, letter of credit beneficiaries, businesses, and individuals in transactions and litigation. He currently practices as a commercial arbitrator. Rust will be generously sharing his time and expertise with students in a number of ways this week: guest lectures, lunch-time chats with student groups, mock interviews, and individual student meetings. Contact Bruce Farrand, bfarrand@indiana.edu, in the Career Services Office to arrange a mock interview or an appointment with Rust. Amy Conner, amconner@indiana.edu, or Susan Kerns, skkerns@indiana.edu, may also be contacted for more information.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28

ELS Hosts "Evening at Oliver Winery"
The Environmental Law Society (ELS) will host its annual "Evening at Oliver Winery" from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This event is one of the biggest annual Law School events. The evening includes food, drink, a silent auction, live music, and great company. It provides a great chance to relax and socialize with professors and professionals in an elegant environment. Tickets will be on sale during lunch in the Law School lobby every day until the event is sold out. Tickets are $20 for nonmembers and $10 for ELS members. The ticket price includes admission, two glasses of Oliver wine, and a fine assortment of food from area businesses. UPCOMING EVENTS
Attention Runners and Walkers
The Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) and the Student Law Association (SLA) need your support. We are putting together a team to participate in the "Jill Behrman Run for the End Zone" 5K run/walk to be held on Saturday, Oct. 15. The entry fee is $15 per person. You will receive a T-shirt for your participation. Prizes will be awarded for the team with the most members and for the "most creatively attired" team. Please contact Megan (mburzych@indiana.edu) or stop by the table in the lobby this week during the lunch hour. The money goes to support Jill's House, an organization committed to providing temporary, home-like residences for patients undergoing outpatient therapy at the Indiana University Proton Therapy facility in Bloomington. Each year, more than 1,400 people participate in this event, which has raised more than $15,000 for Jill's House thus far. Other activities on race day include a Wellness Fair with more than 40 vendors.
NEWS FROM THE FACULTY
On Sept. 20, Professor Rob Fischman was a guest on the Pacifica Radio Network program, "Ecologic," produced by WBAI in New York City. The topic was the controversy over drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Professor Geyh Seeks Research Assistant
Professor Charles Geyh needs a 2L or 3L to serve as his research assistant during the 2005-06 academic year. This student will assist him in drafting a chapter for a book on the relationship between the media and the judiciary, to be published by the Stanford University Press. Five to ten hours per week are needed. Interested students may send him their resumes via e-mail.
RHA Holds Drive For Hurricane Victims
Approximately 150 people (mostly families and K-12 students) will be coming from Louisiana to live in Ashton residence hall. All residence halls will be collecting new or gently used school supplies. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is going to make about 50 backpacks for children who will be starting school here. Also, the president of each dorm will be collecting money. RHA will be purchasing gift cards to stores around town so that families can pick out supplies they may need (toothpaste, food, clothes, etc). Any student group or individual who would like to donate school supplies can drop them off at any center desk in any residence hall (but if you can, drop them off at Eigenmann's game room, which is on the left as you walk in). Please consider donating paper, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, calculators, crayons, markers, notebooks, folders, and glue. For more information, contact Missy Foote, Eigenmann president, at 857-8979.
Get Involved with the Pro Bono Project
Would you like to network with attorneys? Do you need more real-world legal experience in order to find a job or to decide what area of law to pursue? Is there a specialty area of law that you would like to pursue, but do not know how? The Pro Bono Project is pleased to announce that students can accomplish all of the above while earning one B710 credit. By becoming involved with the Pro Bono Project, students can work with local attorneys and/or pro se litigants on a variety of cases in a variety of specialty areas. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Diane Walker, District 10 Pro Bono Project coordinator, at Dist10probono@aol.com
