Professor Geyh Seeks Research Assistant
Professor Charles Geyh needs a 2L or 3L to serve as his research assistant during the 2005-06 academic year. This student will assist him in drafting a chapter for a book on the relationship between the media and the judiciary, to be published by the Stanford University Press. Five to ten hours per week are needed. Interested students may send him their resumes via e-mail.
Golf Outing Results
The alumni/student/faculty golf outing on Saturday, Sept. 10, was enjoyed by all participants. The competition was extremely intense and actually resulted in a tie, making it necessary to invoke a seldom-used rule to determine the winner. This was the rule of "which group most quickly thought of the rule that favored them." At any rate, a more elegant solution could have been proposed by our in-house rules expert, Professor Dan Conkle, but he was unavailable for consultation at the time. So, the proclaimed winners were the foursome: Kyle Lindskog (1L), Jared Simpson (2L), James Pinyerd (3L), and Professor Bob Heidt (25L). Their score was a 60 (so the ILA editor was told). They bested the group that deserves mention, as well: Mark Horvick (4L), Tim Haley (some L), Bill McKenna (after L, i.e. alumnus), and Chris Brokmeier (4B). For the single achievement awards, the winners are as follows: Longest Drive: Jared "Golden Eagle and Fly Long" Simpson (2L); Longest Putt: Jon "Light Touch" Morris (1L); Closest to the Pin: Andy "Radar" Stamm (2L). Entrepreneurial Professor Tim Boeglin and his team (Lindsay Blauer, 2L; Jane Glynn, 2L; and R.J. Boyd) won the "frisbee" award, for highest esteem.
RHA Holds Drive For Hurricane Victims
Approximately 150 people (mostly families and K-12 students) will be coming from Louisiana to live in Ashton residence hall. All residence halls will be collecting new or gently used school supplies. The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is going to make about 50 backpacks for children who will be starting school here. Also, the president of each dorm will be collecting money. RHA will be purchasing gift cards to stores around town so that families can pick out supplies they may need (toothpaste, food, clothes, etc). Any student group or individual who would like to donate school supplies can drop them off at any center desk in any residence hall (but if you can, drop them off at Eigenmann's game room, which is on the left as you walk in). Please consider donating paper, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, calculators, crayons, markers, notebooks, folders, and glue. For more information, contact Missy Foote, Eigenmann president, at 857-8979.
Get Involved with the Pro Bono Project
Would you like to network with attorneys? Do you need more real-world legal experience in order to find a job or to decide what area of law to pursue? Is there a specialty area of law that you would like to pursue, but do not know how? The Pro Bono Project is pleased to announce that students can accomplish all of the above while earning one B710 credit. By becoming involved with the Pro Bono Project, students can work with local attorneys and/or pro se litigants on a variety of cases in a variety of specialty areas. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Diane Walker, District 10 Pro Bono Project coordinator, at Dist10probono@aol.com
