3L STUDENT TO RECEIVE MAYOR'S CIVIC AWARD

The Law School extends congratulations to third-year student Robin Moll, who will receive the Mayor's Award for Civic Engagement tomorrow evening at City Hall in Bloomington. Patricia Cummings, JD'02, legal advocate for Middle Way House, nominated Moll for her work with Middle Way and the Protective Order Project (POP).

LAW LIBRARY FINAL EXAM HOURS

The Law Library will be extending its hours during final exams.

Monday, Dec. 8 - Friday, Dec. 12: 7:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Saturday, Dec. 13: 8 a.m. to midnight

Sunday, Dec. 14: 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Monday, Dec. 15 - Thursday, Dec. 18: 7:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Friday, Dec. 19: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

CAREER SERVICES OPENS COMMENT BOX

The following questions came from the comment box located outside the Career Services Office. We welcome your comments and suggestions.

1. What does the Career Services Office do to support public interest job searches?

Assistant Dean Rachel Kearney held two programs this semester dedicated to helping students find ways to search for public Interest jobs and make job contacts in the public interest arena. This year, we started a Student Connection program, and we will host a program for public interest on Thursday, Jan. 22. We will be bringing back alumni (such as Sara Slaughter, JD'88) to speak about their careers and about their successes in finding public interest jobs. In September, we invited many alumni who work in public interest to our Career Symposium to speak with interested students about public interest careers. The Career Services Office purchases books, directories, and other publications that list public service organizations, jobs, and information on getting jobs, in addition to the online links to public interest organizations, directories, and fellowship opportunities (visit the "Useful Links" section of the CSO Web page: http://www.law.indiana.edu/careers/).

The Career Services Office pays several public interest organization membership fees on behalf of Law School students. We purchase a membership for PSLawNet, the primary Internet source for information about public interest opportunities and funding. PSLawNet contains over 3,500 job openings, both paid and unpaid. We purchase a membership for the Equal Justice Works. Part of the EJW membership fee pays for the annual conference registration for five students. We also pay additional fees for all other students. This year, we will continue to pay the registration fee for the Midwest Public Interest Job Fair held in Chicago.

The Career Services Office also works closely with the Alumni Office to help build relationships with our alumni in the public interest sector.

2. Why does the bulk of on-campus interviewing happen before classes start?

There are a number of reasons for starting interviews early. The Law School is short on space, and, in order to provide enough room for the interviewers, we need to hold OCI before classes start and most of the faculty have returned. Starting early benefits students who participate as well as those who don't. It is much less stressful for students who go through OCI to interview before they have course work, moot court, and journal duties. Students who don't participate aren't made uncomfortable by the "suits" in the hallways. Starting OCI early also gives Dean Kearney and Assistant Director Kim Bunge more free time for students upon their return.

NEWS FROM STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

TOYS FOR TOTS CAMPAIGN CONTINUES THIS WEEK

Phi Delta Phi will continue collecting toys for the Toys for Tots campaign from Monday, Dec. 8, to Friday, Dec. 12. Please place unwrapped toys in the collection boxes in the lobby. All toys will be delivered to the Marine Corps reserve programs in Indianapolis and Terre Haute, where they will be distributed to needy children. If you have questions, stop by the table or e-mail snpage@indiana.edu.

IPA STUDY BREAK WEDNESDAY NIGHT

The Intellectual Property Association (IPA) invites all students to take a break from the stacks and refuel. Join us for food and drinks from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Student Lounge.

IJGLS RECOGNIZES THREE STUDENTS

The Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies (IJGLS) is pleased to recognize three outstanding associates, second-year students Nancy Woodworth, Matthew Dixon, and David Clark, for their diligent work on the third cite-checking assignment. Additionally, we would like to recognize third-year student Thor Martin, managing editor, who is graduating in December, for his outstanding work with his associates during this cite-checking assignment. We thank you for all your hard work on behalf of the IJGLS. Happy Holidays!

SCHEDULING EVENTS

ALL e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non- Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, length of time room will be needed, classroom requested and number of people attending event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

AUDIO - VIDEO SERVICES

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
