KE-YOUNG CHU: TALK AND LUNCHEON TODAY

The School of Law is delighted to welcome our next practitioner-in-residence, Professor Ke-young Chu, former deputy director of fiscal affairs for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and leading scholar in global economics. Chu will give a talk about the role of the IMF in an increasingly integrated world economy at noon on Monday, March 10, in the Moot Court Room. All members of the Law School community are invited to the talk and free luncheon, where Chu will discuss his professional experiences with the IMF and the World Bank. Sponsors for the talk and free luncheon include the APALSA, the International Law Society, and the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies.

Chu will be visiting with law students and faculty this week on Monday, March 10, and Tuesday, March 11. He will join Professor Sarah Hughes's Banking Law class at 3:25 on March 10 and will give a special careers talk at noon on March 11, in room 122.

A visiting professor of economics at Wesleyan University, Chu received his PhD in economics from Columbia University in 1976. After nine years as assistant division chief and economist for the IMF's research department, Chu spent the next decade in IMF's fiscal affairs department as assistant director, advisor, and senior economist. In 1995, he became senior advisor of fiscal affairs and was deputy director from 2001 to 2002. Chu will join the United Nations University's World Institute for Development Economic Research in May as senior research fellow. He is the author and editor of numerous articles and books about global economic reforms, income distribution to developing countries, economic growth, and poverty reduction. His current research focuses on developing countries' successful experiences in building efficient non-discretionary rules.

FCLJ SPEAKER JAMISON PRIME TODAY

In celebration of its tenth year of publication, the Federal Communications Law Journal is hosting the second in a four-part speaker series. Jamison Prime (JD'96), an attorney in the Office of Engineering and Technology at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will discuss hot topics at the FCC at noon on Monday, March 10, in room 124.

Professor James Barnes has been named to the Environmental Financial Advisory Board, a federal advisory committee chartered to provide analysis and advice on environmental finance to the EPA administrator and program offices.

PHI DELTA PHI SPRING INITIATION TUESDAY

Phi Delta Phi Foster Inn invites any interested students to join our legal fraternity. We will initiate new members at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, in the Moot Court Room. Phi Delta Phi is dedicated to the highest ethical standards in the legal profession and boasts five of the current Supreme Court justices in its membership. Members of the legal profession can join Phi Delta Phi only while they are in law school. However, once initiated, a member is a member for life. $5,263 RAISED AT SINGING FOR SUMMER SALARIES LAST WEEK

The Public Interest Law Foundation raised $5,263.67 at last Wednesday's Singing for Summer Salaries event! The Law School will match this number for a grand total of $10,527.34, which will go to help law students who are working in non-paying and low-paying public interest internships this summer. Many thanks to the faculty members and students who donated their time and money to making this event amusing and worthwhile for all! And a special thanks to Professor Conkle for his rousing and memorable performances of "Build Me Up, Buttercup" and the "YMCA" encore.

ATTENTION GRADUATING STUDENTS: YOUR MEMORABILIA NEEDED FOR LOBBY DISPLAY CASE

Believe it or not, it's time to begin planning our annual graduation display in the lobby! As we have done in the past, we will create a collage of pictures, memorabilia, and clippings commemorating your three years at the Law School. We have already gathered a few things, but the best source of such souvenirs is you. We would like to include pictures depicting your lives while law students (friends, events, weddings, children, etc.); memorabilia, including Law School tee shirts, cups, and posters from events; plaques, trophies, and awards; newspapers clippings from the past three years about you, a fellow third-year law student, or the Law School (be sure to include the date and the name of the newspaper); and anything else of significance that is in reasonably good taste and that fits in the display case.

Please give items to the librarians in the reference office or to the assistant to the Law Library director as soon as possible. We will return all the items to you following Memorial Day. To ensure that we have all the necessary information to return the items, please do not leave your items in the office or at the circulation desk. Each item must have a completed form attached that includes your name and your return address. You can pick up these forms at the reference desk or in the library office. For pictures, please submit the full name of each person in the picture, the event or location of the picture, and the year it was taken. All comments and reminiscences must be signed (however, your name will not necessarily be used in the display).

PROGRAM ON RACE AND CLASS ISSUES IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION

The Community Conflict Resolution Program will hold a workshop on race and class issues in conflict resolution on Saturday, March 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. The workshop will address how race and class issues lead to and develop during conflict. Discussion and workshop exercises explore various ways of increasing awareness and responding to these issues in a constructive manner. Bob Hunter (www.earlham.edu/~huntebo), a multi-ethnic specialist for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Campus Ministry and an adjunct professor of peace and global studies at Earlham College, will be leading the exercises. ALL e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non- Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, length of time room will be needed, classroom requested and number of people attending event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
