Here's one argument. Note that it connects the evidence to a clearly material issue:
"This is more evidence of his motive. Not having much money in one’s account has a tendency to prove that Robinson has a motive to try to get more money, which could motivate him to rob a bank. A person who needs money is more likely to have committed a robbery than other people who do not, so it goes to prove the identity of the robber."
Here’s a second argument:
“This is evidence of a second motive -- revenge. Robinson did not have much money to begin with, and then he finds out that the bank has taken some of what little he had left. This is likely to make him angry toward the bank, which gives him a revenge motive to harm the bank, and someone with a grudge against the Credit Union is more likely to commit a crime against it, so it helps prove he is probably the robber.”
