The key to this answer is specificity. This is hearsay within hearsay, so you must identify which level of the hearsay you are objecting to. The first assertion is made by Arden to Samuelson. The second assertion is by Samuelson to Lacey.

I would object:

I object to the witness testifying to what she heard Samuelson say. It is an assertion by him that is being offered for the truth that this is really what Arden said.

I would not object to the assertion by Arden to Samuelson because the foundation has now been laid that she was an employee making a statement about her job

Look at problem 15B.  If Moritz’s accusation and Cosby’s silence are offered as evidence and objected to as hearsay, how should the prosecution respond? When you think you know the answer, click here.
