Here's the response I would make: "Anesthesiology is obviously a field of scientific knowledge in which expert testimony is appropriate, and Dr. Thompson is qualified by his medical training, his years of experience as a doctor, and his continuing involvement as a consultant. No rule requires us to produce a specialist, merely to prove that our witness has specialized knowledge."
