We offer both the traditional fall start in August as well as a spring start in January for most programs. For students beginning their studies in the fall we offer two options to begin even earlier: Summer Start and Intensive Intro. If your schedule permits, you should plan to join us for the summer.
The Summer Programs
- Summer Start (arrive in Indiana before June 13, 2016)
LLM students who are interested in improving their legal English skills and getting a head start on their LLM coursework are invited to participate in the Summer Start Program. The Summer Start Program consists of a non-credit, 5.5-week Legal English course taught by the Indiana University Intensive English Program (IEP) and a two-week, two-credit Introduction to American Law course provided by the Law School (see below). Please note that the non-credit Legal English course requires an additional payment of $2,400 (fees subject to change). Please note that Legal English is a non-credit intensive English course which requires a separate application and an additional payment. You can learn more about the Legal English course or submit an application on the website for the Intensive English Program . If you select this start date, additional instructions on reserving your seat will be provided.
- Intensive Intro (arrive in Indiana before July 25, 2016)
By enrolling in our two-week intensive Introduction to American Law course (2 credit hours), you have the opportunity to complete one of your required law courses early. Arriving by the end of July also gives you time to get settled and accustomed to law school, university and Bloomington communities. Space in this course is limited. The course will take place from July 25-August 6.
Students in the JD program at the law school who are interested in international law are employed by the Office of Graduate Legal Studies and International Programs as Student Ambassadors. Each new international graduate student is assigned to a group of international graduate students, and a Student Ambassador leads the group, helping new students learn their way around the Bloomington, university, and law school communities as quickly as possible. During the summer, two Ambassadors will be available to help students who are participating in the Summer Start and Intensive Intro programs.
