Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program
The Indiana University IRS VITA program offers free tax preparation services for qualifying low-income taxpayers during the spring semester. Each year, it is our privilege to help hundreds of low-income Bloomington residents and nonresident students file tax returns with the federal government, the state of Indiana, and many other states.
If you are an Indiana University student and you are interested in serving on the VITA team this year, we'd love to hear from you. E-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteers: please log your hours at the FCTS Time Sheet.
Taxpayers: Free Tax Preparation Services
Our services are 100% free of charge: if your income is $54,000 or less or if you are elderly, have a disability, or have limited English proficiency, we can probably help you. If you are a nonresident student at Indiana University, we can almost certainly help you.
Please note that VITA is a low-income tax preparation service. If you have received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service or the Indiana Department of Revenue and you believe you may require some legal assistance, we suggest that you contact Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS). ILS operates a low-income taxpayer clinic (LITC) that offers free legal advice and representation for qualifying applicants. You can call the Bloomington office of ILS at 800-822-4774. You can also e-mail the LITC at email@example.com.
