Presidential Management Fellows Workshops

The Presidential Management Fellowship program (PMF) provides paid, 2-year, postgraduate opportunities in a federal government agency, with full benefits, where 98%+ of the fellows are converted to full-time permanent positions at the end of their term. Past Maurer grads have taken positions with agencies from the Dept. of State to the Dept. of Education; from the Dept. of Defense to the Customs & Border Protection; and more. For more information on the program and the application and nomination processes, please attend one of the two PMF information sessions. *Success in this program is NOT dependent upon grades. 3Ls only. Kaplan Bar Course Demo and Kindle Fire Giveaway

Learn about Kaplan's Bar Review from your Maurer Kaplan reps. Tools for 1Ls and 2Ls will also be discussed. Lunch will be provided, and there will be a Kindle Fire giveaway. Room 121, noon - 1 p.m.

OWLS Halloween Trick-or-Treating

It's an activity for children of students, faculty, and staff of Maurer School of Law. Meet at 4:00 p.m. in the student lounge on the ground floor, then children will visit offices of participating faculty and staff. A children's costume parade will begin at 5 p.m. in the first floor lobby, where volunteer judges will hand out awards for various categories of unique costumes. Late-arriving children are welcome to trick-or-treat until the parade begins, and families will be invited to reconvene in the student lounge after the parade for a light dinner before heading out. All children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the Halloween activity.

StrengthsFinder Assessment for 2Ls and 3Ls

OCPD is offering students the opportunity to take the StrengthsFinder 2.0 Assessment to discover their personal strengths. Once you've received your book and taken your assessment, Caroline Dowd-Higgins will put on this workshop to interpret results for any student who has taken their assessment. RSVP on Symplicity (which gets you free lunch too) then stop by the OCPD to pick up your free copy of the StrengthsFinder 2.0 book that gives you access to a personal assessment test so you can bring your results to the workshop. Trip to Ohio to Encourage Voter Participation

Are you interested in the Presidential Election and support the President? If so, this event is for you! Stop by this short meeting to get more information about a trip to Ohio this weekend, Nov 3-4! We'll be encouraging infrequent voters who supported the President in the last Presidential election to come out and vote again this year. PILF's First Annual Glow-A-Ween Run!

Joint PILF for our first annual Glow-A-Ween Fun Run/Walk 5k at 7 p.m. at Bryan Park. We encourage you to dress up in your Halloween costume and/or glow in the dark attire. You can sign up as an individual, or as a four person relay team. Proceeds will go toward the PILF scholarship fund. Cost is $5 per person, and additional donations are appreciated for this great cause. YOU MUST SIGN UP AND PAY IN ADVANCE. We will be tabling all week! Doggy Day Study Break!

You asked for puppies, and today, the law school will have them! Join the Student Bar Association and the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund for an afternoon break from studying. During this study break, students are invited to bring and will be bringing their dogs to the Third Street Courtyard behind the law school. Lunch and apple cider will be provided, and students are encouraged to stop by the courtyard to play with our four legged guests. This event will run from 12-2pm.


Saturday, November 3

SALDF Pumpkin Party Tabling

Who wouldn't want to spend their Saturday afternoon watching over 230 big cats play with pumpkins full of meat? Every year the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund makes a trip the wonderful Exotic Feline Rescue Center, a true gem of Indiana, for its yearly Pumpkin Party. The Pumpkin Party takes used pumpkins from the community, fills them with meat, and gives them to the lions, tigers, panthers, and more as a treat. The SALDF will be tabling in the law school lobby all this week to provide information, to sell tickets to the Pumpkin Party, and to arrange carpools for anyone who is interested.


Faculty News

On October 12, Prof. Jim Barnes moderated and contributed to the opening panel at the Harvard Law School's program on the Clean Water Act at 40. Other panel members included the key congressional staffers involved in drafting the legislation and other EPA officials later involved in implementing it. Richard Lazarus, a former faculty member at the IU Law School and now at Harvard, was a co-organizer of the event.

Prof. Daniel Conkle recently spoke on "Religion and the 2012 Election" at a public forum at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. In addition, his essay, Religion, Government, and Law in the Contemporary United States, has been published in The Cambridge History of Religions in America.



CACR Cybersecurity Summit

Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, University Place Conference Center and Hotel IUPUI, 9:00 a.m. through 1:30 p.m.

Indiana University's Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research will present its ninth annual Cybersecurity Summit from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, at the University Place Conference Center & Hotel on the IUPUI campus. This year's theme is: "Mr. President, We Have a Situation: Advising the Next U.S. President on Cyberthreats." The summit will be highlighted by a keynote address from Stewart Baker, former U.S. Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary for policy, and will also feature Maurer School of Law Distinguished Professor and CACR Director Fred H. Cate and Professor David Fidler, among others. The summit is free and open to the public, and students are welcome to attend. Though there is no cost to attend the summit, registration is required and can be completed at Lunch and parking will be complimentary. Three hours of CLE credit have been applied for. We look forward to seeing you in Indianapolis!

China Town Hall

The Research Center for Chinese Business and Politics presents its sixth annual Colloquium Series on October 29. It is co-sponsored by the National Committee on United States-China Relations, East Asian Studies Center, East Asian Languages and Cultures, IU Chinese Flagship, Center for Chinese Language Pedagogy, and Chinese American Talks. An online form is available to plan and schedule meetings. Please use this form to request a room, notify Indiana Law Annotated, and send other information about your event. You will receive confirmation that your room has been reserved after your request has been processed. When filling out your event description, please provide all information possible, especially if you are requesting that the event be publicized.

ILA Submissions

The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Submit information and articles for ILA to by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition. Length of submission is limited to 150 words, unless otherwise approved. If you're requesting a room, submit all information (including the room request) via the Plan a Meeting feature of the website.
