Congratulations to 2L Paul Newman, who is not only a law student, but also a member of the linguistics faculty at IU he has been named a Distinguished Professor by the university, in recognition of his outstanding scholarship in the field of West African linguistics. YALE'S AMAR TO DELIVER HARRIS LECTURE WEDNESDAY
On Wednesday, March 20, Akhil Amar will deliver the Harris Lecture, on "Architexture," at noon in the Moot Court Room. Amar, the Southmayd professor at Yale Law School, is the author of several books on the U.S. Constitution and many articles. He also writes on online column (you can read it at http://writ.news.findlaw.com/amar/) treating constitutional issues and current events.
CONFLICT RESOLUTION INSTITUTE BROWN-BAG: NATIONAL ISSUES FORUM
"Practicing Deliberative Democracy: The National Issues Forum in Bloomington," a talk by Professor Jeffrey Isaac and Marsha Bradford, will be given next Monday, March 25, at noon, in the dean's conference room (third floor) at SPEA. Professor Jeffrey Isaac is the James H. Rudy Professor of Political Science and the director of IU's Center for the Study of Democracy and Public Life. Marsha Bradford currently serves as the Coordinator for the Safe and Civil City Program (S&CCP) in the Bloomington Mayor's Office.
Isaac and Bradford will speak about Bloomington's experience with a National Issues Forum on the topic of "Creating Communities, Fighting Sprawl," held last November and attended by over 100 citizens. They will present their thoughts on this experience, present the results of the evaluations, and offer their opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of using the National Issues Forum public deliberation process as a way to involve citizens in voicing their opinions on issues of public concern.
Professor Rob Fischman's most recent article, "A Lesson for Conservation from Pollution Control Law: Cooperative Federalism for Recovery Under the Endangered Species Act," has now been published in the current issue of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.
Registration for this coming summer will take place on March 20 or March 21. Both classes can register on either day. Registration for non law school university courses will also take place on these days. See Dean Fromm for permission before you register for any outside courses unless you are an established joint degree student. The summer schedule will be in mailslots on Thursday and also will be e-mailed and on the webpage. Registration for the fall semester will be as follows: LLM, MCL, and 2L students register on April 8; 1L students register on April 9.
For courses outside the law school at the university, registration will be on April 1 or 2 for the best priority, though later registration is possible. Schedules for next fall and spring, along with course descriptions and other information, will be provided on March 25. DO NOT follow the university-provided information that indicates that you should register at some other date.
TURN OUT FOR BLOOD DRIVE ON MARCH 25
Come one, come all! It's the spring blood drive at the Law School. Due to last Halloween's stellar support and marvelous turnout, the Red Cross has again asked us for blood. Yes, there will be food, and yes, there will be prizes. Please come; you could help save up to four lives with one pint of blood, and the life you save may be your own.
The blood drive will be on Monday, March 25, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., in the student lounge in the basement. Please come and bring a friend. We welcome first-time donors, too. Right now, the average age of a blood donor is YOUR GRANDMOTHER'S AGE. And while we love your grandmother, the supply of blood donors needs to start getting YOUNGER! Please do your part. Questions? Beginning on Monday, March 18, the Housing Board on the ground floor across from the SLA Bookstore will be maintained by the Admissions Office. All information currently posted there will be removed.
If you wish to post a housing notice, please provide the information to the Admissions Office, room 230, or e-mail the details to firstname.lastname@example.org. The information will be put on the housing information list sent out from the Admissions Office and posted on the board for you.
There will be three categories of housing information: Fall information (information from area landlords who have units available for the fall); roommate information (information about students who are looking for roommates to share housing); and sublet information (information on apartments that are available for summer sublet).
FAMILY MEDIATION TRAINING OFFERED IN MAY
The Community Conflict Resolution Program (CCRP) is offering a 40-hour family mediation training on May 6-10 and May 18, 2002 (May 18 for the required Indiana Law component). Robert Benjamin is the primary trainer. Co-sponsors of the training include Citizens for Community Justice; Community and Family Resources Department and Safe and Civil City Program, City of Bloomington; Indiana Association of Mediators; Indiana State University; Indiana University School of Law Bloomington; and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs' Keller-Runden Endowment. The program will be located at the Law School.
The family mediation training provides the 40 hour instruction certified as appropriate for mediation training by the Indiana Commission for Legal Education under the Indiana Trial Rule-ADR. Attendees may receive up to 24 hours of continuing legal education credits for completion of this course. Registration is limited to 24 participants.
The fee for this training is $900, or $800 if received by April 11. Reduced rates are available for students and CCRP mediators. Some scholarships are available. Please contact Lisa-Marie Napoli (CCRP Executive Director) at email@example.com or (812) 855-1618 for more information or to register.

To schedule classrooms in the law building, send e-mail to bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl- events-law@ exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include date and time of event, length of time room will be needed, classroom requested and number of people attending event. Requests should be sent at least one week prior to event and include name of person requesting, organization planning the event and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail.

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.
