Attend an informational meeting in room 121 at noon for our joint USD summer study abroad programs. Tax Season is right around the corner! IU Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is getting ready for another season of completing community tax returns and answering tax questions. IU VITA will be holding a call out meeting on Wednesday, January 18 at noon in 121. Anyone interested in business or tax law should definitely attend this call-out meeting. The Community Justice Mediation Center (CJAM) offers a 32-hour Basic Mediation Training for any community member interested in helping facilitate community mediation or victim-offender reconciliation. The winter training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on two weekends, January 21-22 and 28-29, at the Law School. Participants who complete the training are eligible to work as CJAM volunteer mediators; however, any community member interested in learning basic mediation skills is welcome to participate. The training will be led by Senior Mediators from the Community Justice and Mediation Center. Tuition is $200, with scholarships available. Registration forms are at www.cjam.org. On Dec. 1, 2011, Prof. Leandra Lederman presented her paper, "The Fight Over 'Fighting Regs' and Judicial Deference in Tax Litigation" in the Tax Law Speaker Series at the University of San Diego School of Law. On Dec. 2, she co-presented with Ted Sichelman their co-authored article, "Measured Tax Enforcement" in the Faculty Workshop at the University of San Diego School of Law.
On November 21, 2011, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the United States' decision to remove the Yellowstone grizzly bear population from protection under the Endangered Species Act. In the course of the opinion (Greater Yellowstone Coalition, Inc. v. Servheen, __F.3d__, 2011 WL 5840646, C.A.9 (Mont.), November 22, 2011)), Judge Tallman cited Professor Robert Fischman's article, Adaptive Management in the Courts, 95 Minn. L. Rev. 424 (2010) (with Ruhl).
