The Community Justice Mediation Center (CJAM) is conducting a 32-hour workshop for any community member interested in helping facilitate community mediations and victim-offender reconciliation. Training will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 12, 13, 19, and 20 in room 214 at the Law School. Participants who complete the training are eligible to work as CJAM volunteer mediators; however, any community member interested in learning basic mediation skills is also welcome to participate. Professor Emeritus of Law Edwin H. Greenebaum will serve as the principle training instructor. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and taught Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation at Indiana Law until his retirement. The Environmental Law Society is sponsoring a presentation titled "Recent U.S. Supreme Court Decisions and the Impact on Environmental Law" from noon to 12:50 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, in room 124. Professors John Applegate, Rob Fischman, and Jim Barnes will make up the panel of speakers at the presentation. As the title suggests, the panel will be discussing the likely impacts of the fascinating array of environmental law cases that have been decided by the U.S. Supreme Court over the past year. Secretary of Energy David Chu has reappointed Professor Jim Barnes as a member of the department's Environmental Management Advisory Board for a term ending Sept. 30, 2011. The board provides advice to the secretary and the department concerning the remediation of nuclear and hazardous wastes at the country's weapons production facilities as well as the programs for ongoing management of those sites.
Over the summer, Professor Craig Bradley published, "'Knock and Talk' and the Fourth Amendment" in the Indiana Law Journal and "Interrogation and Silence: A Comparative Study" in the Wisconsin International Law Journal. His two latest columns for Trial Magazine appeared in the June and August issues.
Professor Marshall Leaffer's treatise, Understanding Copyright Law (4th ed.), has just been published in a Japanese language translation by Lexis/Nexis Japan. Professor Leaffer cannot understand a word of it, but likes the way it looks.

It's time to apply for the 2010 Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. All applications are welcome. Previous moot court experience and relevant course work will be considered, but neither is required. Priority will be given to upper-class students, but 1Ls should submit just their names as an expression of their interest in Jessup so that they can be contacted by Professor Christiana Ochoa about the Jessup Competition. Please submit a current resume and a statement of interest (covering relevant experience and reasons for interest in the competition) to Dean Len Fromm, in room 022, no later than Friday, Sept. 11. Applications will be reviewed by a faculty committee. Further announcements about open call outs for a couple of other external moot court teams are forthcoming.
Now 40 years old, the Jessup Competition has risen to the preeminent position of being the world's largest and most prestigious international law moot court competition. Today, approximately 1,500 students from more than 300 law schools in almost 50 nations participate in the competition. Participants compete in regional and national competitions in their respective countries. Winners from these competitions advance to the international rounds, which have been held, historically, in Washington, D.C.
The Indiana Law team will consist of four students and will be coached by Professor Ochoa. During the fall semester, team members will produce two written memorials (analogous to a brief); oral arguments will take place during the spring semester. For more information, visit www.ilsa.org.

Upper-level students should stop by and pick up their upper-level review books. Upper-level student sign-up requires $250. Don't forget to sign up for the MPRE and the BARBRI MPRE review course. You must have $250 paid on your account to sign up for the MPRE review.
