Indiana Law alumni Matt Gutwein, JD'88, and Jessica Barth, JD'00, will lead a discussion about health law and administration at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, in room 124.

Faculty Course Counseling and Advising

Faculty will be available from noon to 1 p.m. in the lobby and in some classrooms to counsel students in regard to scheduled courses for this upcoming academic year. This will be an excellent opportunity for students to question individual faculty about courses, sequencing, and general academic planning. This event is sponsored by your Student Bar Association. Pizza and bottled water will be provided at various lobby locations.

Real Life Stories from Leading Health Administrators & Lawyers

The Health Law Society presents a pizza lunch discussion with high-profile health professionals at 12:15 p.m. in room 124. If you haven't seen Matt Gutwein, JD'88, in action, now is your chance! The former Baker & Daniels partner and now president and CEO of the Health and Hospital Corporation of Indianapolis will "wow" you with tales from the trenches as a leading litigator and health administrator. Jessica Barth, JD'00, Corporate Counsel for Wishard Hospital, will also share stories. This is the perfect chance to get the true story of how to make it big in the health law and administrative professions!

The Law and Drama Society Presents Noises Off

Come see the Law and Drama Society perform Michael Frayn's Noises Off at 8 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. This outrageous comedy follows the love, lies, and deceit that take place behind the scenes as a group of ridiculously inept stage actors rehearse a play. There will be an encore performance at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 6. Tickets will be on sale in the lobby during lunch or at the door for the low price of $3. If you enjoyed last year's presentation of Neil Simon's Rumors, you will be sure to laugh your way through this comedy. We hope to see you there!

FACULTY NEWS

Professor Charles Geyh's new book, When Courts and Congress Collide, was recently published by University of Michigan Press. The book examines whether our nation's judiciary can remain independent in light of the battle over judicial appointments. William Sessions, former FBI Director and federal district judge, praises the Indiana Law professor for standing "at the forefront of a national campaign to protect and promote the vital role that strong and impartial courts play in protecting our rights." The book is available for purchase online and in bookstores nationwide.

Professor Ajay Mehrotra recently presented a paper, "The Factories of Fiscal Reform: State Constitutions and Institutional Innovations" at the Boston University/Cambridge (Clare College) University sponsored Political History Conference in Boston.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Globalization of the Legal Profession

Indiana Law will hold a conference titled "Globalization of the Legal Profession" on Thursday, April 6, in the Moot Court Room. The purpose of this unique symposium is to initiate dialogue about how globalization is fundamentally changing the work lives and professional opportunities of lawyers in the U.S. and abroad. Prominent figures in the global legal industry will explore various interrelated themes on the issues facing legal profession, including law firm strategy, the relevance of geography, the lawmaking role of transnational lawyers, and how cultural norms affect or shape our perceptions of ethical lawyering. The program will include presentation of scholarly papers and responses by symposium participants.

GPSO Faculty Mentor Award

The Graduate and Professional Student Organization (GPSO) encourages you to nominate a faculty member who has been influential to your graduate studies at IU for our annual Faculty Mentor Award. To recommend a faculty member for this award, please submit a nomination letter that describes why your mentor deserves recognition as well as information about yourself (including program of study, year in program) that may aid the selection committee in understanding the impact your mentor has had on your development. Nomination letters should be emailed to gpso@indiana.edu (subject line: Faculty Mentor Nomination) by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31. Awards will be presented at the GPSO Garden Party on Friday, April 14.

Housing Information

The Housing Board on the ground floor across from the SLA Bookstore will be maintained by the Admissions Office. All information currently posted there will be removed. If you wish to post a housing notice, please provide the information to the Admissions Office, room 230, or e-mail the details to Dani Weatherford, maweathe@indiana.edu. The information will be put on the housing information list sent out from the office, posted on our Web site for admitted students and posted on the board for you. Information will be available from area landlords who have units available for the fall, students who are looking for roommates to share housing, and apartments that are available for summer sublet.

Governor Seeks Student to Serve on Commission

Governor Mitch Daniels seeks a student to serve a two-year term as a full voting member of the Commission for Higher Education. The term will begin on July 1, 2006, and terminate on June 30, 2008. This student should be able to spend one weekend per month traveling to meeting locations to serve on this commission. Compensation is $50 per meeting and gas and hotel expenditure reimbursements. Students must be enrolled in an Indiana public university until May 2008 and use Indiana in their permanent address. Applications for this position are due by April 26. Interested students should contact Becca Polcz at state@indiana.edu for additional information and an application.

Attention Graduating Students

Believe it or not, it is time to begin the planning for the graduation display for the lobby. As we have done in the past, we want to do a collage of pictures, memorabilia and clippings regarding your three years of law school. We have already gathered a few things, but the real source of such items is all of you. We will return all the items to you following Memorial Day. Here is what we would like to include: pictures (students, events, weddings, children) depicting some aspect of your lives while law students; memorabilia including law school T-shirts, cups, posters from events that occurred during the three years; plaques, trophies or awards won can be included; clippings from any newspaper article about you, a fellow third year, or the law school during the three years. These can be local paper clippings or from your hometown. Be sure to include what newspaper the article is from and the date of the article. Anything that has significance to you, will fit in the display case, and is in reasonably good taste can be included. Please get these items to us as soon as possible. Each item must have a completed form attached that includes your name and the address where you want it returned. You can pick up these forms at the Reference Desk or in the Library Office. For pictures, the full name of each person in the picture, the event or where the picture was taken and what year it was taken. All comments or reminiscences must be signed, although we will not necessarily use your name in the display. We reserve the right to omit any item if needed. Give items to the librarians in the Reference Office or to the assistant to the Law Library director. To ensure that we have all the necessary information to return the items, do not just leave them in the office or at the Circulation Desk.

Cash and Recognition Opportunities

Have you ever stopped to look at the bulletin boards outside of the offices of Student Affairs and the Recorder? If so, you know that there are loads of opportunities to submit your written handiwork and, in return, make yourself eligible for extra cash and resume-enhancing awards! On the board now are contests with substantial top prizes like: $3,000 in the American Judges Association's competition; $2,000 in the International Association of Defense Counsel's contest; and, $1,000 for the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana's contest exclusively for Indiana law students. Scheduling Events

All e-mail about reserving classrooms must be sent to BL-LAW-EVENTS. Mail must be sent to the correct address, bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include the date and time of event, the length of time the room will be needed, the classroom requested, and the number of people attending the event. Requests should be sent at least one week before the event and should include the name of the person requesting, the organization planning the event, and an e-mail address. Confirmations will be sent by reply e-mail. Thank you!

Audio-Video Services

Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time, and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by e-mail.

ILA SUBMISSIONS

The Indiana Law Annotated (ILA) is published every Monday while school is in session with news about the coming week. Information and articles for the ILA should be submitted to ila@indiana.edu by Thursday at noon for inclusion in Monday's edition.
