EVENTS & LECTURES

"DRUNK & DISORDERLY" TUESDAY
Foster Inn of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, in cooperation with Indiana Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program, presents Drunk & Disorderly II: Character, Fitness, Discipline & Ethics. Tuesday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. The speakers are : Donald R. Lundberg, Executive Secretary of the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission, will discuss prosecution of disciplinary charges; Kevin P. McGoff, a leading disciplinary defense counsel in Indianapolis, will discuss defense against disciplinary charges; Susan B. Eisenhauer, JLAP Executive Director, will discuss how JLAP can help lawyers and law students in distress; and Terry L. Harrell, JLAP Clinical Director, will discuss alcoholism, addiction, depression, stress, and other mental health issues.

Each speaker will present for 10-15 minutes, and then all will take questions from the floor. There will be fruit, cookies, brownies and coffee. CATS, Bloomington's cable access channel, will tape the event for its programming rotation. For those applying to the Ohio state bar, please note that this program will provide attendees with a 1-hour CLE credit for Alcohol Education in Ohio.

NEWS FROM STUDENT AFFAIRS OFFICE

PETERS SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE
Applications are now available in room 024 for the Glenn D. Peters Law School Scholarship Fund. Applicants must be permanent residents of the Northern District of Indiana for the United States District Court. This basically means north of Indianapolis. While financial need can be a factor, greater weight is assigned to academic achievement and involvement in quality extra curricular activities. Application Deadline is June 1, 2001.

LOAN DEBT MANAGEMENT SESSION
On Wednesday, March 21, at Noon, in the Moot Court Room, Melanie Turner, our Financial Aids Administrator, will conduct a helpful session on Federal Loan Debt Management. Although this program is especially directed to graduating seniors, second year students may be interested in attending as well. Included in her session will be information about the process of repaying federal loans, repayment options available with examples, loan consolidation, loan deferment and forbearance options, cancellation provisions, getting your own repayment guide, and how to access individual federal loan amounts on-line.

HONOR, GLORY, MONEY!!
Dust off that seminar paper or that law journal note or perhaps even a moot court brief! There likely is some writing contest in the country that awaits your submission. Take a look at the bulletin board across the hallway from room 024 for descriptions of many of these contests. However, there is a Web site dedicated to collecting all of these, at: http://www.people.memphis.edu/~law/. Many of our former law students have won prizes, one for $4,000!!! A little extra work on your part could be profitable.

SALDF MEETING WEDNESDAY
SALDF (Student Animal Legal Defense Fund) Meeting: Wednesday, March 7 at Noon in Room 120. Planning for Mark Kruzan event!!! Please attend and bring your good ideas about how to advertise for the following: State representative Mark Kruzan will be a guest of SALDF to speak about the history of the legislation that makes animal abuse a felony in Indiana on March 30. Email Alyce Miller at almiller@indiana.edu for more information. We are currently soliciting new members! Come and pick up an application and join a worthwhile, low-key, exciting organization.

LAW/SPEA STUDENT ASSOCIATION MEETING WEDNESDAY
All current or potential joint law/SPEA students are invited to attend our next meeting on Wednesday, March 7 at 4:00 p.m. in Room 122. We will start with elections for the 2001-02 Executive Board, followed by a brief talk by Associate Dean

for Career Services, Rachel Kearney.

The bulk of our time will be dedicated to our annual scheduling advising session. Working out an individual schedule between schools operating on two different time schedules and that each have their own requirements is not an easy task. A number of third and fourth year students, who have gone through this exercise many times before, will be on hand to advise and assist. All are welcome, but first year students, who will have their fates in their own hands for the first time, and second year students, who will be venturing over to SPEA for the first time, are especially encouraged to attend.

Keep in mind, SPEA registration will take place on April 2 and 3 and law school registration for current 1L's will be on April 3, and for current 2L's it will be on April 2. Hope to see you all there!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

ADMISSIONS ASSISTANT NEEDED
JOB DESCRIPTION: In order to better assist incoming students with questions regarding the Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington, financial aid, housing and spousal employment searches, the Admissions Office seeks to hire a first or second year law student to work as an admissions assistant. The person will primarily serve as a resource and contact for prospective students.

The person should be a self-starter who is empathetic with the transitional and financial aid problems associated with moving to Bloomington and starting law school. The person needs to be articulate, resourceful, creative and a good advocate. Computer and typing skills are essential.

Hours are flexible. The position will be available on a part-time basis ($ 6.00/hr) starting in late March and continuing through the end of August. Approximately 5-10 hours per week will be required from late March until the end of the semester and approximately 15-20 hours will be required during the summer until the beginning of fall classes.

Students interested in this position should submit a resume and letter of application that addresses how your experience and skills meet the requirements needed for the position . INDIANA MULTI-STATE BAR REVIEW
If you are interested in an alternative to prepare for the Indiana bar exam, stop by the Indianapolis Bar Association's (IBA) information table starting this Monday (and then most Mondays and Wednesdays) from 11:30-12:45 in the Law School lobby by the library. There are a number of reasons to consider the IBA's review:

lower prices than the competition all lectures are available via email to answer questions each lecturer who lectures on multi-state topics has passed the multi-state portions of the exam

If 15 or more law students from Bloomington register to take the IBA's bar preparation course, the IBA will provide a group videotaped replay in Bloomington. The IBA is a not-for-profit organization committed to serving its members, and is a leader in providing legal education.

To schedule classrooms in the law building, send email to bl-law-events (for Outlook users) or bl-events-law@ exchange.indiana.edu (for non-Outlook users). Please include date and time of event, length of time room will be needed, classroom requested and number of people attending event. Requests should be sent at least one week prior to event and include name of person requesting, organization planning the event and an email address. Confirmations will be sent by reply email.

AUDIO - VIDEO SERVICES
Requests for AV services may be sent to Beth at av@exchange.indiana.edu. Please include the name of your group and the e-mail address of the contact person, a description of what you want to do, and the date, location, starting time and duration of the event. Requests must be made at least 48 hours in advance and will be confirmed by email.
