Professorships
Named professorships are awarded to tenured faculty who have made a distinguished and enduring contribution to their research area. Named professorships are permanent awards established through contributions to the School of Law through the Indiana University Foundation.
The Robert H. McKinney Professorship
Robert H. McKinney was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1925. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he received his B.S. degree, and received his law degree from Indiana University in 1952. Until his retirement in 1991, Mr. McKinney was senior partner with Bose, McKinney & Evans in Indianapolis. He is currently chairman and CEO of the First Indiana Bank and chairman and CEO of The Somerset Group, Inc. Among his many professional activities, Mr. McKinney is the Director of Lilly Industries, Inc., and has served as chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. in Washington, D.C.. He was appointed by President Carter as director of the Federal National Mortgage Association.
Mr. McKinney is also an active civic leader serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for Indiana University and the U.S. Naval Academy Foundation. He was the chairman of both the Government Operation Committee for the Governor Bayh Administration and the Indianapolis Minority Enterprise Task Force. He has been active with the Democratic political committees for many years. In response to his many years of service to higher education in Indiana, Mr. McKinney has received LL.D. degrees from Marian College in 1976 and from Butler in 1981. He has been a member of the Indiana University Board of Trustees from 1989 until 1998.
The Robert H. McKinney Professorship was established in 1992.
