The Robert. A Lucas Chair
Robert A. Lucas, a graduate of the IU School of Law, established the Chair prior to his death in March 1999. Lucas was extremely devoted to Indiana University and held many important leadership roles He served as a trustee of the University, director of the Alumni Association, past president of the Law Alumni Association, director of the IU Foundation, and at the time of his death was the honorary co-chairman of the School of Law's first-ever capital campaign. "I have a great appreciation for education," said Lucas in 1993, "and I think education leads to enjoyment of life, as well as the ability to make contributions to your fellow man. Without education, I think life would be empty."
"Bob Lucas was one of our truly great alums. His dedication to our school and to the importance of education was an inspiration to us all," said IU School of Law Dean Alfred C. Aman, Jr., "I believe Professor Roger Dworkin embodies the qualities of scholarship and teaching that will make his appointment as the first Robert A. Lucas Professor of Law a perfect match between the high standards of the donor and the accomplishments of one of our most distinguished faculty members."
