Making a Difference in Korea’s Financial System
Wookbai Kim, SJD’09

Wookbai Kim spent seven years as a senior associate in Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). While working as a bank regulator in his country, Kim was motivated to pursue graduate study in U.S. banking regulations. At Indiana Law, he’s getting the skills he needs to make a difference in his country’s financial health. “With the completion of my studies, I would like to resume my supervisory career at the FSS; I hope to play a key role in reshaping Korean financial policies. I also hope to pursue a teaching career in the area of banking laws.”

Well-tailored programs : “I am very satisfied with the academic environment the IU School of Law offers—highly recognized professors who like to discuss academic issues with students, well-tailored graduate programs for international students, a warm and friendly school staff, and an amazing Law Library.”

Making global friends: “To be an international student at the IU School of Law—Bloomington means to a have wonderful opportunity to study at one of the most prestigious schools in the world. At Indiana Law, you can perfect your education and establish global friendships at the same time.”

Deepening knowledge: “Some of my most enjoyable experiences have been interacting with the school’s excellent faculty members. A clear example is my banking law class in spring 2006 with Professor Sarah Hughes. Exploring a variety of issues on banking laws and discussing them with her really deepened and widened my study and research.”

What I love about this town: “Bloomington is a beautiful and peaceful city full of warm, generous people and cultural enrichment. The city provides invaluable experiences for international students and their families.”
